7.5 Hours per Day, Monday-Friday

Pay Column J: $18.32 per hour, paid over 12 months.

Under the direction of a certified teacher, the Para educator – Special Needs provides support to students with special education needs, assists with medical and personal needs, reinforces learning concepts, and helps students reach academic, personal, and behavioral goals. Supports teachers in implementing IEPs, monitors and documents student activities, and provides clerical support.

• Guide students individually or in small groups with lesson assignments and personal interactions to practice and reinforce learning concepts and assist in reaching academic, personal, and behavioral goals.
• Monitors and adheres to students’ daily schedule and behavior plan, administers tests and homework, and supports the teacher.
• Adapts classroom activities and materials, and makes accommodations under direction of the special education teacher.
• Models appropriate social behavior and everyday interaction, employing de‑escalation and restraint techniques as needed.
• Supports individual medical and personal needs of students, including first aid, oxygen, and other care as instructed.
• Assists in evaluating student progress, maintains records, and provides documentation.
• Collaborates with teachers to implement IEP objectives and attends IEP meetings when requested.
• Monitors students in various settings, implements discipline, and ensures a safe environment.
• Assists with classroom materials, equipment, and organization.
• Performs additional duties as assigned.
• Responds to emergency situations to resolve immediate safety concerns.
• Attends meetings and in‑service training as required.

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• No experience required, but preference for experience working with school‑age children, children with special needs, and in a healthcare field.

• Criminal background check required for hire.
• First aid certification preferred.
• Training on delegated healthcare procedures required within the first 30 days.

• English language skills.
• Oral and written communication skills.
• Interpersonal and basic math skills.
• Knowledge of child development stages (preferred) and bilingual skills (preferred).
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to attendance expectations and district procedures.
• Ability to promote and follow Board of Trustees, District, and building policies.
• Ability to recognize importance of safety and report unsafe conditions.

• Operating knowledge of personal computers and peripherals required within 2 months.
• Operating knowledge of office equipment such as telephones, copier, fax machine required within 2 months.
• Operating knowledge of office productivity programs such as Microsoft Office Suite and email preferred.

Certified Teacher and Principal

Instructional Support – Paraprofessional / IA.
