Job SummaryUnder the direction of a certified teacher, provide support to students with special education needs within the assigned classroom by reinforcing curriculum with individuals and/or small groups of students, adapting classroom activities, collaborating with teachers to implement IEPs, monitoring student behavior, and providing clerical support. This position can be placed in job coach, resource room, or other special education settings.
Key Responsibilities- Assist students individually or in small groups to introduce and reinforce learning concepts, curriculum assignments, and lesson plans; administer tests, homework, make‑up work, and adapt classroom materials as directed.
- Collaborate with certified teachers to evaluate student progress and maintain recordkeeping, providing verbal feedback and written documentation.
- Implement IEP objectives and accommodations, observing progress throughout the school day and attending IEP meetings when requested.
- Monitor and supervise students in classroom, playground, field trips, lunchroom, bus loading/unloading, ensuring a safe and positive learning environment; implement discipline per district policies.
- Prepare and organize classroom materials, equipment, and work areas to support student learning and maintain safety.
- Assist personnel with enrollment, record maintenance, paperwork, room organization, duplication, laminating, and correcting papers.
- Respond to emergency situations (injured student, fights, etc.) and direct to appropriate personnel.
- Attend meetings and in‑service training as required.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent (no experience required).
- Preferred: experience working with school‑age children and children with special needs.
- Criminal background check required for hire.
- First Aid certification preferred.
- English language skills; strong oral and written communication.
- Interpersonal relations skills, basic math skills, ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability and willingness to work effectively with students of all abilities and to adhere to attendance and safety expectations.
- Knowledge of child development stages (preferred).
- Bilingual language skills (preferred).
- Familiarity with personal computers, office equipment, and Microsoft Office Suite; required within 2 months after hire.
- Reports to:
Certified Teacher and Principal. - Position is non‑supervisory; no direct reports.
- Position Type:
Full‑time. - Work Year: 10 months.
- Salary: $15.20 per hour, Pay Column F, + benefits.
- Starting Date:
Aug 19 2026. - Job Term: 188 day schedule.
