Classroom Teacher

The job of Classroom Teacher is to provide support to the instructional process by supervising students in the classroom and other assigned areas, developing lesson plans, delivering group and individual instruction within established curriculum guidelines, collaborating with other educators and staff, and responding to inquiries from students’ parents or guardians regarding instructional programs and student progress. This position reports to the Building Principal.

• Administers subject‑specific assessments for the purpose of assessing student competency levels and/or developing individual learning plans.
• Advises parents and/or legal guardians of student progress for the purpose of communicating expectations, achievements, and developing improvement methods.
• Assesses student progress toward objectives and provides feedback to students, parents, and administration.
• Collaborates with instructional staff, other school personnel, parents, and community resources to improve overall student outcomes and achieve classroom objectives.
• Directs assistant teachers, student teachers, instructional assistants, volunteers, and/or student workers for the purpose of an effective classroom program.
• Instructs students (demonstrating, illustrating, defining, explaining, directing, preparing, comparing, differentiating, motivating, guiding, facilitating, etc.) to improve academic success.
• Maintains district equipment for safety and availability, reporting defects to appropriate personnel.
• Manages student behavior to provide a safe learning environment.
• Monitors students in various educational environments (classroom, playground, field trips, etc.) to provide a safe and positive learning environment.
• Participates in meetings, workshops, training, and seminars for required information.
• Prepares written materials (grades, attendance, anecdotal records, etc.) to document progress and meet mandates.
• Remains current on research findings related to teaching and learning for continuous improvement.
• Reports incidents (fights, suspected abuse, substance abuse, etc.) to maintain student safety and adhere to policies.
• Responds to inquiries from teachers, parents, administrators, etc., resolving issues and providing information.
• Utilizes accepted principals of learning (transfer, reinforcement, motivation, retention, etc.) to provide excellent instruction.

• Performs related duties as assigned to ensure efficient and effective operation of the work unit.

Skills: Perform multiple, complex technical tasks, including using assessment instruments, operating standard office equipment, and maintaining accurate records.

Knowledge: Ability to perform algebra and/or geometry, read technical information, compose documents, facilitate discussions, and analyze situations. Familiarity with codes, policies, regulations, laws, age‑appropriate activities, lesson plan requirements, child development stages, and behavior management strategies.

Abilities: Schedule activities, gather, collate, and analyze data, work with diverse individuals, solve problems, adapt to changing priorities, maintain confidentiality, exhibit tact and patience, and work flexible hours.

Work under limited supervision following standardized practices, lead and coordinate others, and utilize resources from other work units to impact organizational services.

Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and fine finger dexterity. 10% sitting, 45% walking, 45% standing. Work under minimal temperature variation in a hazard‑free environment.

Job‑related experience required.

Bachelor’s degree in a related area.

Appropriate Wyoming State Department of Education Certificate, endorsement, and highly qualified status.

Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance.
