5th Grade Teacher – 2026/2027 Contract Year Only (TA11)

1. School: GOINS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, Cheyenne, Wyoming.

This position is for the 2026/2027 contract year only. The teacher will support the instructional process by supervising students, developing lesson plans, and delivering instruction within established curriculum guidelines. The role collaborates with other teachers, staff, and administrators, and communicates with parents or guardians regarding instructional program and student progress.

• Administers subject‑specific assessments to evaluate student competency levels and develop individual learning plans.
• Advises parents and/or legal guardians of student progress, communicating expectations and developing improvement methods.
• Assesses student progress toward objectives and provides feedback to students, parents, and administrators.
• Collaborates with instructional staff, school personnel, parents, and community resources to improve student outcomes and achieve classroom objectives that support the school improvement plan.
• Directs assistant teachers, student teachers, instructional assistants, volunteers, and student workers to implement an effective classroom program and meet individual student needs.
• Instructs students—demonstrating, illustrating, defining, explaining, directing, preparing, comparing, differentiating, motivating, guiding, and facilitating—to enhance academic success within the curriculum.
• Maintains district equipment, ensuring safe operating conditions, and reports defective equipment for repair.
• Manages student behavior to provide a safe learning environment.
• Monitors students in classroom, playground, field trips, and other educational settings to foster a safe and positive atmosphere.
• Participates in meetings, workshops, training, and seminars to gather and share information necessary for performance.
• Prepares written materials—grades, attendance, anecdotal records—to document student progress and meet mandated requirements.
• Remains current on research findings related to teaching and learning, applying effective principles to become a more effective educator.
• Reports incidents—such as fights, suspected child or substance abuse—to maintain student safety and uphold educational codes and school policies.
• Responds to inquiries from teachers, parents, administrators, and others to resolve issues and provide direction.
• Utilizes accepted principles of learning—such as transfer, reinforcement, motivation, and retention—to deliver excellent instruction.
• Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

SKILLS required to perform a variety of complex tasks and to upgrade skills as job conditions change, including applying assessment instruments, operating office equipment, using software applications, and maintaining accurate records.

KNOWLEDGE includes the ability to perform algebra and/or geometry, read technical information, compose documents, facilitate discussions, and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Knowledge of codes, policies, regulations, age‑appropriate activities, lesson plan requirements, child development stages, and behavioral management strategies is also required.

ABILITY to schedule activities, gather, collate, and classify data, and use job‑related equipment. Flexibility to work with diverse individuals and groups, handle varied data, and apply standardized methods is needed. Problem‑solving skills to analyze issues, generate action plans, and adapt to changing priorities are also required.

The teacher works under limited supervision, follows standardized practices, leads and coordinates others, and utilizes resources from other units as needed. The role provides significant opportunity to impact the organization’s services.

Typical demands include occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and fine‑finger dexterity. The job requires 10% sitting, 45% walking, and 45% standing in a generally safe environment with minimal temperature variation.

Job‑related experience is required.

Bachelor’s degree in a job‑related area.

Appropriate Wyoming State Department of Education certificate, endorsement, and highly qualified status.

Criminal justice fingerprint/background clearance.
