GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) is seeking a full‑time Emergency Communications Senior Technician located in Cheyenne, Wyoming. This position is critical to emergency communications systems and public safety and will assist in the project‑related implementation of emergency communications. Responsibilities include contractor management, job documentation, leading meetings with key stakeholders, and serving as a liaison to various agencies. This position plays a crucial role in managing site operations for mission‑critical emergency communications, which are part of the Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) and the Wyo Link radio network.
This network supports local, state, and federal public safety agencies, including first responders, the Wyoming Highway Patrol, and WYDOT Maintenance terms.

Cheyenne is a steadily growing community along the Front Range but still true to the history of the Old West. The city offers nearby access to mountain biking, skiing, hiking, fishing, hunting, and other outdoor activities. ESSENTIALFUNCTIONS
- Performs installation, troubleshooting, repair, maintenance, and inspections of public safety agency emergency communications land mobile radio systems and related electronic equipment in State‑owned vehicles, buildings, and mountaintop repeater sites
- Uses computer software applications to troubleshoot and program emergency communications devices
- Installs maintains and upgrades telephone systems for WYDOT facilities and users, including UPS backup power
- Installs and maintains devices that interface to commercial broadband services
- Installs and maintains CAT5e and CAT6 wiring and tests circuits
- Assists with installing and integrating communications systems serving roadside Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) components and Highway Advisory Radio (HAR) stations; provides ongoing maintenance
- Serves as 24/7 “Subject to call Technician” and occasional “On‑Call/Call back” responding to assist with outage repairs anywhere in the state as needed
- Duties include high‑priority repairs based on outage reports and automated network performance monitoring capabilities; or equivalent
- Trains local radio system users in the operation of advanced emergency communications equipment
Preferences/Agency Requirements: Preference may be given to those with 3 to 5 years of progressive work experience in the maintenance and repair of electronic devices or emergency communications systems or an Associate’s Degree in Electronics. Agency requires the successful applicant to possess a FCC General Radio Operator’s license or equivalent certification, Radio Frequency Safety certification, Tower Climbing Safety and Rescue certification, First Aid/CPR certification, and/or obtain within 9 months of start date.

KNOWLEDGE- Effective written and verbal communication skills: prepare records, reports, correspondence, and technical drawings; clearly explain technical issues to non‑technical persons.
- Broad knowledge of electricity, electronics, information technology, and emergency communications, including telephony, data communications, integration of voice and data communication systems with computer and electronic devices, transmission media, tower structures, vehicle electrical systems, and building/facility services.
