Project ContextBechtel has a long-standing history of delivering complex projects across industries. This project is part of the Renewables & Clean Power (R&CP) team and involves one of the largest gas-fired power generation facilities in the U.S. The project scale requires early works planning and preconstruction work ahead of full EPC delivery.
Job SummaryAs the Area Field Superintendent (Switchyard), you will lead a team and supervise superintendents and/or craft professionals on a project. You will direct craft activities, work schedules, and coordinate subcontract work. You will ensure crafts have the tools, comply with project policies, and perform within specifications, schedules, and budgets. The primary focus is supervision of the GIS Switchyard/Microgrid area, including subcontract activities, foundation installation, cabling and terminations, transformer setting, and related works.
Responsibilities- Receive assignments with clear goals and the process to meet them.
- Provide direction to employees according to established policies and management guidance.
- Administer company policies that affect subordinate employees.
- Recommend changes to policies affecting the immediate organization(s).
- Supervise and/or direct craft activities and discipline as assigned.
- Schedule work and review progress for each craft.
- Determine workforce requirements.
- Coordinate area operational plans.
- Monitor tool and equipment usage on the site.
- Oversee the preparation of Field Material Requisition s for tools and consumables, ensuring crafts have the tools required.
- Ensure the most current design documents are used and that design changes are approved prior to implementation.
- Ensure construction operations and subcontractors’ performance comply with specifications and stay within schedules and budgets.
- Work with Construction Field Engineers, Foremen, and Craft Professionals to interpret engineering design documents, vendor documents, and other technical documents.
- Oversee engineering solutions with Subcontractors, Foremen and Craft Professionals.
- Requires bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) and 8-10 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience.
- Experience in GIS switch gear construction including prefabricated buildings, outdoor/indoor electrical equipment, cabling terminations, transformers, and associated foundations and structural systems.
- Multidisciplinary field supervision experience (civil, electrical, structural) is desirable.
- Working knowledge of NEC, NFPA 70E, IEEE, and ACI standards as applied to GIS and transformer installations.
- Experience supporting energization, testing, and system turnover activities.
- Knowledge of direct hire construction and Bechtel Standard Work Process Procedures.
- Thorough knowledge of construction activities as they relate to engineering disciplines, cost and scheduling, and contract administration.
- Familiar with subcontracting and contractor/subcontractor responsibilities in subcontract documents.
- Strong leadership, client relations, and talent development experience on construction projects.
- Computer literacy (word processing, spreadsheets, databases).
- Familiar with current industry quality standards and effective communications to motivate teams.
- Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.
- Knowledge of cost management, including estimating and forecast development.
