The Switchyard Coordinator - Project Engineer will lead and collaborate with the subcontractor to oversee the execution of a 230kV GIS substation. The role involves interpreting technical requirements, coordinating design and production meetings, monitoring schedules, ensuring critical equipment delivery, and providing technical guidance to keep the project within scope and budget. This assignment will start in Houston, Texas, and later transition to the project site in Cheyenne, Wyoming for 24 months (Q3 2026 to Q3 2028).
MajorResponsibilities
- Manage schedule and key stakeholders including Bechtel India engineering, Earthwork/Foundations (Clark Bros), Buildings (Moore Industries), GIS (Hitachi), and Dashiell Construction (DACON).
- Coordinate with construction and supply chain.
- Attend daily meetings with Dashiell and the Bechtel project team to ensure smooth progress of design activities, identify critical issues, and provide mitigation recommendations.
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree (or international equivalent) in Electrical HV Power Systems, Civil/Structural Engineering, or a closely related field and 15+ years of relevant experience.
- At least 10 years of prior experience as an Engineering Group Supervisor or a Project Engineer on complex EPC Power projects.
Electrical Engineering Background
- Ability to select and specify electrical equipment for LV and MV systems such as power panels, switch gear, MCCs and transformers.
- Prior experience managing HV Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) packages as Responsible Engineer or Project Engineer.
- Working knowledge of electrical system design codes and standards including IEEE, IEC and NFPA 70.
- Preferred experience with attending Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) of switch gear, protective relays, SCADA, and substations.
Civil / Structural Engineering Background
- Ability to design and install large building foundations.
- Ability to design and manage large steel frame industrial buildings.
- Working knowledge of MEP systems (HVAC, lighting, fire protection) and building cranes.
- Experience managing 3D models, clash checking, and constructability reviews.
