The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) is dedicated to delivering a safe, high-quality, and efficient transportation system across the State of Wyoming. We are seeking an Engineer II to join our team in Cheyenne, Wyoming. This full-time position offers the opportunity to contribute to highway projects from inception through design, construction, and contract completion, under the guidance of the Resident Engineer.
Responsibilities- Perform engineering tasks related to highway projects throughout all phases, including design, construction, and contract management.
- Work closely with the Resident Engineer and other team members to ensure timely and successful project delivery.
- Support the preparation and review of plans, specifications, and contracts for various transportation projects.
- Assist in ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory standards.
- Issues, reviews, comments, and revises plan sets; review and approve or reject project submittals/permits; review and update forms and documentation procedures.
- Inspect and assure projects/facilities are completed according to plans, specifications, design criteria, and budgetary constraints.
- Develop engineering models, conduct studies, make cost estimates, and submit reports and other required documentation.
- Coordinate with contractors, other agencies, and the public when a project impacts them; oversee construction projects with emphasis on quality control and pay quantities.
- Provide technical guidance and oversight; train personnel in engineering and surveying and proper fieldwork documentation techniques.
- Perform field inspections, laboratory testing, materials analysis, and QA/QC activities as required.
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering.
- 0-3 years of progressive engineering experience; at the level of an Engineer I.
- Engineer in Training (EIT) or Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certification required.
- Must be able to obtain required certifications/licenses: valid driver's license; QC/QA certification in soils & aggregate, asphalt, and concrete; asphalt concrete, soil & aggregate; WYDOT Portland Cement Concrete.
- Knowledge of engineering principles, surveying and measurement equipment, construction methods, project scheduling, and cost estimating.
- Ability to interpret plans and specifications; strong written and oral communication skills; decision-making and technical leadership capabilities.
- Experience with field surveys, geometric and trigonometric computations, and basic engineering drawings.
- Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering. - Experience:
0-3 years of progressive work experience (in Engineering) with knowledge at the Engineer I level. - Licenses/Certifications:
Engineer in Training (EIT) or Fundamentals in Engineering (FE) required.
- Ability to sit/stand and operate equipment for long periods.
- Work outdoors for extended periods in adverse environmental conditions; work around heavy machinery and high-speed traffic.
- Physical ability to bend, stoop, and lift up to fifty pounds; move materials as required.
- FLSA:
Non-Exempt - WYDOT conducts motor vehicle record checks to verify a valid driver’s license.
- Occasional overnight travel is required.
