We are currently seeking a passionate, detail-oriented Structural Detailer II to join our team in Cheyenne, Wyoming.
As a Structural Detailer II, you will be responsible for creating intricate, accurate structural drawings for bridges and other critical highway structures. Your work will directly impact public safety and contribute to enhancing Wyoming's transportation infrastructure. - Using computer-aided drafting software to create accurate and complete structural details by referencing engineering computations, utilizing engineering theory, reviewing project-specific data, and following proper detailing procedures and office standards
- Obtaining records and information for use in structural details; verifying and correcting and adding to structural details
- Calculating estimated quantities of materials required for contract bidding, construction, and project costs
- Communicating with designers to ensure structural drawings comply with engineering computations
- Recommending minor adjustments in design to achieve simplicity and constructability
- Utilizing trigonometry, algebra, and geometry to calculate reinforcing steel lengths and laps, girder piece lengths, cross‑frame lengths, gusset plate dimensions, etc.
- Participating in the review of drafting standards
- Participating in technician meetings to review detailing standards
- Knowledge of drafting principles, practices, standards, and office policies that relate to structural detailing
- Understanding of the practical applications of algebra, trigonometry, and geometry
- Skill in the use of computer‑aided design and drafting software (Microstation and AutoCAD), word processing (Word or Word Perfect), and spreadsheet (Excel or Quattro Pro) computer applications
- Ability to produce clean, legible, and organized work
- Attention to detail and ability to work under pressure
- Ability to work well with others

Associate's Degree (typically in Physical Science) - Experience
: 0–1 year of progressive work experience (typically in Transportation) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Design Assistant - Education & Experience Substitution
: 2–4 years of progressive work experience (typically in Transportation) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Design Assistant - Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

- FLSA:
Non‑Exempt - The Wyoming Department of Transportation is a Drug‑Free Workplace.

- Qualifying eligibility and criteria for the hiring bonus
- Temporary employees accepting a full‑time position
- Acceptance of a permanent full‑time non‑exempt/exempt position posted for public recruitment
- Current employees accepting a promotional opportunity – recruitment must have been opened to the public
- One year of service to WYDOT must be completed; failure to complete this requirement will forfeit the hiring incentive, and funds will be recouped from final pay.
- Internal candidates would be required to remain in the position for a minimum of one (1) year from their promotion date.
- Employees would only be eligible for one (1) hiring bonus in a 12‑month period.
- If the employee elects to downgrade through an active recruitment and/or appointment during the twelve (12) month period, they would be required to pay the bonus back.
