The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) is looking for a full-time Project Engineer to join our Project Development Section in Cheyenne, Wyoming. - Works independently on projects of moderate to high complexity
- Develops, refines, and reviews horizontal and vertical alignments
- Establishes dimensions and geometry of cross-sectional elements of roadways to determine and refine excavation, embankment, and haul quantities for construction of the roadway
- Develops contract plans
- Designs and details other roadway features such as guardrail installations, drainage structures, and utility and right-of-way impacts in accordance with applicable State and Federal design policies and procedures using design software
- Calculates pay quantities for materials used to construct roadways and prepares computer spreadsheets summarizing these quantities
- Attends periodic workshops to increase skills and knowledge
- Trains others in new methods and procedures
- Assists the design team leader in training employees to aid in their career development
- Works with software programs and the design team to ensure the work is done per scheduled dates set by the Project Control System
- Schedules, attends, and leads plan inspections
- Affixes professional engineer (PE) stamp to contract plans
- Assists the design team leader in the daily operation of the design team; attends meetings in the absence of the design team leader
- Reviews the work of other employees
Preference given to knowledge of WYDOT's project/plan development procedures and project flow charts Knowledge of highway engineering concepts and principles Use of CADD software and Microsoft Office Technical writing, communication, time management Ability to work effectively with other department programs, outside agencies, and the public Give attention to detail and work under tight work schedules Knowledge of mentoring and coaching skills Knowledge of Federal, State, and local rules and regulations
Education:
Bachelor's Degree (in Engineering)
Experience:
1-2 years of progressive work experience in Engineering Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Professional Engineer's (PE) License Required at time of hire - (Wyoming PE required within one year of hire date.)
