RACE DATES:
October 2 – November 1, 2026, 16 days of racing
October 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11, 12, 16, 17, 18, 23, 24, 25, 30, 31 & November 1
The Wyoming Gaming Commission is accepting applications for a Presiding Steward (1). Preference for prior Level 1 Steward experience. The applicant will enforce Wyoming state laws and the rules promulgated by the Wyoming Gaming Commission.
Mandatory Requirements- Current ROAP Steward Accreditation, Level 1 and in good standing.
- Knowledge of racing industry regulations and enforcement; including racing rules, integrity of the sport and race day operations.
- Ten or more years of prior experience in the racing industry as a Steward, Racing Official or Racing Regulator.
- Must be able to work weekends, holidays, and varying shifts.
- Leadership.
- Self-Motivated, quick learner.
- Navigate multiple priorities proficiently.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Word & Excel, Gmail, Google Sheets & Google Calendar.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing with persons of diverse backgrounds.
- Preside over live racing.
- Serve as a senior member of the Board of Stewards to review alleged violations.
- Prepare violation and hearing notices.
- Draft/issue rulings after hearing testimony; may levy fines/suspensions and/or make recommendations to the Wyoming Gaming Commission for further action.
- Observe running of live races/replays on videotape, determine if all starting gates opened simultaneously, assess interference of horse and jockeys; may disqualify a horse and change order of finish if a foul was committed; declare race official.
- Implement and interpret statutes, administrative rules and operating procedures regarding horse racing in the State of Wyoming; participate in racing task force on collaboration of new rules.
- Review occupational license background information, request additional information as needed and make licensing determinations.
- Write daily/weekly steward reports for Commission.
- Investigate potential rule violations, safety concerns or other matters and prepare written reports if requested.
- Work closely with the Wyoming Gaming Commission Safety Officer to enforce the rules and protect safety of all participants both human and equine.
- 20-20 vision (corrected).
- Ability to distinguish colors.
- Ability to climb stairs.
- Must be able to lift 35 lbs.
- Ten or more years of prior experience in the racing industry.
- ROAP Certified.
