Rotational Apprentice – Actuarial Services
As a Rotational Apprentice – Actuarial Services with the BCBSWY Actuarial Team, you will play an essential role in learning and assisting with multiple functions across multiple departments. You will participate in a rotational program designed to build a broad understanding of our business and complete rotations in small group underwriting, large group underwriting, finance, audit/enterprise risk management, and actuarial, gaining exposure to both technical and business-focused work while supporting real-world projects in each department.
Responsibilities- Evaluating the risk of insuring employer groups and other group segments using claims experience, demographics, industry, contribution strategy, and benefit design.
- Applying manual rating, experience rating, and credibility concepts in coordination with actuarial guidelines and corporate underwriting standards.
- Calculating renewal rates and developing new business quotes using standard rating tools, underwriting models, and actuarial inputs.
- Partnering with actuarial staff on complex analyses, including large‑case experience reviews, trend and fee assumptions, and pooling.
- A bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Economics, or a related field is required.
- Excellent mathematical background with a strong knowledge of statistical principles.
- Ability to analyze data using spreadsheets, databases and other software tools.
- Detail‑oriented with strong organizational and time‑management abilities.
- Goal oriented.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Preference will be given to applicants with professional designations (e.g., SOA actuarial exams).
