Driver License Field Examiner

The Wyoming Department of Transportation is seeking a Driver License Field Examiner to join our team in Cheyenne, Wyoming. This is a public-facing, customer service-focused role where you'll assist individuals by issuing , driver licenses, and commercial driver licenses, as well as administering written and road tests. You'll play a key role in helping customers navigate the licensing process while ensuring public safety.

Essential functions of this role include:

  • Providing service to and interacting with the general public in a professional and courteous manner
  • Receiving, reviewing, and issuing all types of licenses, permit, identification card, disabled placards, and concealed firearms permit applications, revisions, and renewals
  • Determining applicants' eligibility for licensing by making inquiries and properly interpreting responses received through the state and national computer information systems
  • Screening applicant's physical, mental, and visual abilities to safely operate motor vehicles per state and federal law
  • Administering computer-assisted written and vision tests, or other tests to applicants. Scheduling applicants for driving skills tests
  • Administering driving skills test examinations. Performing vehicle inspections prior to driving skills testing
  • Advising applicants of suspensions, cancellations, and revocations, and advising how to reinstate their driving privileges
  • Accurately entering, processing, tracking, and reviewing driver license and permit, identification card, disabled placard, and concealed firearms permit data into appropriate computer applications, databases, and systems; operating signature and photo capture devices
  • Collecting appropriate fees for services and preparing receipts; ensuring and accepting accountability per state policy that monies received balance with receipts issued
  • Researching and communicating information related to license and permit requirements to the general public, agency staff, law enforcement, courts, other states, and government and elected officials; answering questions and explaining licensing and permit requirements; accurately interpreting driving record data, and supplying information regarding license and permit processing, policies, and procedures

  • Experience:

    0-2 years of progressive work experience (typically in business) OR 2-4 years of progressive work experience (typically in Business)

    Non-Exempt. Applicants must pass an FBI fingerprint check. Successful applicant will be subjected to a thorough background investigation. Travel expenses are reimbursed according to state policy.
