General Description
The Wyoming Department of Transportation is seeking a Driver License Field Examiner to join our team in Cheyenne, Wyoming. This public‑facing, customer‑service focused role involves issuing , driver licenses, and commercial driver licenses, as well as administering written and road tests. You will help customers navigate the licensing process while ensuring public safety.

$2,000 Hiring Bonus (eligibility details in Notes Section)
Essential Functions- Provides courteous service to the general public and answers questions about driver licenses and identification cards.
- Receives, reviews, and issues all types of licenses, permits, identification cards, disabled placards, and concealed firearms permit applications.
- Determines applicants’ eligibility for licensing by reviewing state and national computer information systems.
- Screens applicants’ physical, mental, and visual abilities to safely operate motor vehicles per state and federal law.
- Administers computer‑assisted written and vision tests and schedules applicants for driving skills tests.
- Conducts driving skills test examinations and performs vehicle inspections prior to driving skills testing.
- Advises applicants of suspensions, cancellations, and revocations, and explains how to reinstate their driving privileges.
- Accurately enters, processes, tracks, and reviews driver license data into appropriate computer applications and databases; operates signature and photo capture devices.
- Collects appropriate fees, prepares receipts, and ensures monetary accountability per state policy.
- Researches and communicates information related to license and permit requirements to the public, agency staff, law enforcement, courts, other states, and government officials; accurately interprets driving record data and provides information about licensing policies and procedures.
Education: Associate’s Degree (typically in Business)
Experience: 0–2 years of progressive work experience (typically in Business) OR 2–4 years of progressive work experience (typically in Business)

Travel is required to various WYDOT locations.
- FLSA:
Non-Exempt - Applicants must pass an FBI fingerprint check.
- Successful applicant will be subjected to a thorough background investigation.
- The Wyoming Department of Transportation is a Drug‑Free Workplace.

- A valid Driver License is required for the position.
- Travel expenses are reimbursed according to state policy.
- Qualifying eligibility and criteria for the hiring bonus:
- Temporary employees accepting a full‑time position.
- Current employees accepting a promotional opportunity – recruitment must have been opened to the public.
- One year of service to WYDOT must be completed; failure to complete this requirement will forfeit the hiring incentive, funds will be recouped from final pay.
- Internal candidates would be required to remain in the position for a minimum of one (1) year from their promotion date.
- Employees would only be eligible for one (1) hiring bonus in a 12‑month period.
- Employees who elect to downgrade through an active recruitment and/or appointment during the twelve (12) month period would be required to pay the bonus back.
