Probation and Parole Agent

Make a lasting difference in the lives of individuals, families, and communities by serving as a Probation and Parole Agent with the Wyoming Department of Corrections. This position combines public safety, case management, and evidence-based interventions to help individuals successfully reintegrate into society while reducing recidivism and promoting long-term behavioral change.

In this role, you will supervise a diverse caseload of adult probationers and parolees, including misdemeanor and felony offenders with varying risks and needs. Using validated assessment tools, motivational interviewing techniques, and evidence-based practices, you will develop individualized case plans that encourage accountability, support positive decision-making, and foster sustainable behavior change.

Success in this position requires building collaborative relationships with clients, victims, community partners, treatment providers, law enforcement agencies, courts, and correctional institutions. You will conduct office, home, and employment visits, facilitate cognitive intervention programming, monitor compliance with court and supervision requirements, and apply appropriate interventions, incentives, and sanctions to encourage progress toward supervision goals.

This position also plays a vital role in the criminal justice process through conducting investigations, preparing reports and recommendations for courts and parole authorities, collaborating on inmate reentry planning, and engaging with victims to provide information, support, and safety planning. Through a balance of accountability and encouragement, you will help individuals overcome barriers, make meaningful life changes, and become productive, law-abiding members of their communities while enhancing public safety throughout Wyoming.

Qualifications

Preferences:
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Social Work, Counseling, Sociology, Psychology, Criminal Justice, or Administration of Justice, along with progressive work experience in Probation and Parole, to include experience in one or more of the following areas: case management practices, risk/need assessments, cognitive skills group facilitation, effective interpersonal communication strategies, conducting investigations, report writing, understanding of the concepts of behavioral change.

Knowledge of human behavior, crisis behavior, substance use, abuse, and addiction Knowledge of the criminal justice system, department policies, and procedures Knowledge of criminal and legal law Knowledge of procedures used in criminal justice agencies and cognitive behavior programs Knowledge of various computer software programs, including Google and Microsoft Ability to effectively communicate, both orally and in writing, with offenders and other professionals Ability to be a positive, pro-social role model for offenders Ability to exercise good judgment when making decisions in highly stressful situations Ability to analyze information from various sources Ability to interpret information received from risk/needs assessments and case planning tools Ability to engage others in innovative solutions Ability to create and implement new concepts and ideas, and to motivate others Ability to learn and utilize various interviewing skills, such as Motivational Interviewing Skills in organization, time management, group facilitation, and problem-solving

Bachelor's Degree (typically in Social Services)

Experience:

0-2 years of progressive work experience (typically in Adult Probation and Parole) with acquired knowledge at the level of an Interstate Compact Specialist OR Education & Experience Substitution: 3-5 years of progressive work experience (typically in Adult Probation and Parole) with acquired knowledge at the level of an Interstate Compact Specialist Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
