Branch Manager

The Branch Manager is the operational leader of the JB Engineers branch and is responsible for the daily performance of Construction Materials Testing (CMT), Geotechnical Operations, and Laboratory Services. This position ensures employee development, safety, quality control, operational efficiency, and support of branch profitability.

This role is not administrative in nature. The focus of this position is leadership of people, field operations, laboratory workflow, scheduling, quality, and client service.

• Lead and manage all branch operational staff including technicians, laboratory personnel, and provide operational support to Project Managers and other branch operations.
• Oversee technician scheduling, utilization, and manpower forecasting to meet project demands.
• Manage and lead the Quality Systems Manual (QMS) for the branch including ensuring annual calibrations up-to-date (in-house and external), technician training (in-house and external), PSP sample submittal (if an accredited laboratory) and responses to AASHTO/CCRL as required.
• Ensure CMT testing meets ASTM, AASHTO, and JB Engineers quality expectations.
• Oversee laboratory workflow, turnaround times, and certification readiness.
• Implement and enforce JB Engineers Safety Culture and JSA usage across field and lab staff (if appropriate)
• Serve as Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) for the branch.
• Support Project Managers by removing operational obstacles and ensuring adequate staffing. Based on operational size the Branch Operations Manager may also serve a Project Manager.
• Maintain branch equipment, vehicles, testing tools, supplies, and facility organization.
• Foster a professional, accountable culture aligned with JB Engineers mission, vision, and core values.
• Support client relationships through operational excellence and professionalism.

Responsible for hiring, training, mentoring, and evaluating field and laboratory staff. Ensure employees obtain and maintain required certifications (ACI, WYDOT, NICET, ICC, etc.). Provide ongoing coaching (annual and quarterly) and performance feedback.

Ensure strict adherence to safety standards, ASTM/AASHTO testing procedures, and JB Engineers quality requirements. Prepare the branch for audits, inspections, and certification reviews.

Authorized to direct daily activities of operational staff, adjust schedules, enforce safety and quality standards, and make decisions necessary to meet client and project needs.

• 5+ Experience in Construction Materials Testing, Geotechnical, or Laboratory operations.
• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or equivalent experience.
• Supervisory or leadership experience.
• Applicable certifications (ACI, WAQTC, NICET, ICC, or similar).
• Proficiency with Meta Field and Microsoft Office.
• Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.

• Salary range $75,000-$100,000 depending on experience and qualifications
