Plateroom Technician / Production Assistant
The Plateroom Technician / Production Assistant is responsible for preparing printing plates used in the production of daily newspapers, preprints, and commercial print jobs. This role ensures plates are produced accurately and on schedule according to production specifications and deadlines. The position also supports the overall production process by monitoring key systems, maintaining plateroom equipment, and assisting in other production areas such as the pressroom and mailroom when needed.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare and process printing plates for daily newspapers, preprints, and commercial print jobs according to established specifications and deadlines.
- Operate and monitor Computer-to-Plate (CTP) machines to ensure accurate and efficient plate production.
- Utilize and monitor the News Way Pagination program to support proper layout and production workflow.
- Perform routine maintenance and basic troubleshooting on plateroom equipment to ensure systems operate at peak efficiency.
- Maintain organization and cleanliness of the plateroom and production areas.
- Coordinate with production staff to ensure timely completion of print jobs.
- Assist in the pressroom and mailroom as needed to support overall production operations.
- Follow all workplace safety procedures and operational guidelines.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Previous experience in printing, production, or manufacturing environments is a plus but not required.
- Basic computer skills and ability to learn production software systems.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
- Ability to lift and move materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to perform repetitive tasks and work in a production environment.
- Production and print facility environment with exposure to machinery and moving equipment.
- May involve early morning, evening, or weekend shifts depending on production schedules.
