Location: 1950 Bluegrass Circle Suite 100, Cheyenne, WY 82009 Pay: $64.00 per hour Job Type: Part-time Schedule: Mondays and Fridays only (8:00 AM – 5:00 PM)

About the Opportunity

Medix is looking for a dedicated Nurse Practitioner to join our team in Cheyenne, supporting Optum Serve in its mission to provide high-quality medical evaluations for our nation’s Veterans.

This is a charting and investigative position
, not a treatment-based role. If you enjoy clinical diagnostics, in-depth medical record reviews, and performing comprehensive physical exams without the stress of managing long-term treatment plans or prescribing, this is the perfect career move.

The Mission:
Serving Those Who Served

In this role, you will perform Compensation and Pension (C&P) examinations for Veterans and separating military members. You will provide a thorough clinical picture to help the VA determine benefits for service-connected health issues.

Key Responsibilities
  • Comprehensive Evaluations: Perform Disability Benefit Questionnaires (DBQs) and Separation Health Assessments (SHA) on Veterans.
  • Medical Record Review: Conduct in-depth reviews of medical histories and abstracts applicable to the Veteran's claim.
  • Physical Assessments: Perform physical evaluations and obtain detailed health histories regarding specific identified conditions.
  • Diagnostics: Order and interpret labs and other diagnostic tests as necessary.
  • Medical Opinions: Diagnose and provide evidence-based medical opinion decisions based on your physical findings and the Veteran's claims.
  • Documentation: Ensure all exam findings are submitted through a cloud-based EHR portal within a 24-hour turnaround time.
Role Dynamics
  • Quality over Quantity: Average exam times range from 1.5 to 3 hours, allowing you to focus on the Veteran’s medical history.
  • Patient Volume: Typically 1 to 6 Veterans per day (dependent on the complexity of the claims).
  • Environment: Professional, clinical setting with a focus on operational excellence.
Requirements
  • Master’s or Doctorate degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
  • Active, unrestricted Nurse Practitioner license in the state of Wyoming.
  • Current BLS certification.
  • Excellent critical thinking, problem-solving, and verbal/written communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with an interdisciplinary team.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to meeting strict 24-hour documentation deadlines.

JOB DESCRIPTION Job Overview

Performs Compensation and Pension Examinations on Veterans and separating military members seeking benefits for their service-connected health issues. This includes obtaining a thorough history and physical, performing both comprehensive and focused examinations as well as a complete review of medical records on a cloud-based EHR. Submission of information gathered through an online portal for Veterans Administration to review as part of a compensation/pension claim.

This is a charting/investigative position, not treatment-based.

Job Summary

The primary responsibility of this position is to perform either Disability Questionnaires (DBQs) OR Separation Health Assessment (SHA) Examinations. The type of examination performed is dependent on whether the Veteran in question is currently out of the military or if they are currently exiting the military.

Job Duties
  • Perform Disability Questionnaires (DBQs) Examinations on Veterans claimed condition.
  • Perform Separation Health Assessment (SHA) Examinations on Veterans currently exiting the Military.
  • Reviews Veterans medical history, including abstracts that highlights portions of the history applicable to the Veterans claim.
  • Performs physical evaluation for veterans for disability claim ensuring that charts are submitted within 24 hours.
  • Orders and interprets labs and other diagnostics.
  • Obtain in-depth health histories regarding specific conditions that have been identified as potential health issues for the Veteran.
  • Orders necessary ancillary services based off physical examinations.
  • Diagnose and provide medical opinion decisions based off physical examinations on Veteran claims.
Medical Examinations
  • Average exam time: 1.5-3 hours (can be longer…even up to 8 hours).
  • 1 Veteran or 4-6 Veterans per day, this is dependent on # of DBQs.
