General Description
Put your craftsmanship and construction expertise to work maintaining and preserving facilities that serve the people of Wyoming. This position performs highly skilled carpentry work and leads a variety of construction, renovation, repair, and maintenance projects that ensure state-owned buildings remain safe, functional, and visually appealing.
Essential Functions- Repairs, constructs, and maintains the state-owned and operated facilities including the Capitol complex and Cheyenne buildings controlled by the Department of Administration and Information.
- Responsible for building and facility interior components, including floors, window coverings, blinds, walls, non-structural partitions, doors, ceilings, and furniture.
- Exterior components such as roofing, exterior walls, doors, windows, and stone and masonry veneers.
- Maintains roof drains, downspouts, gutters, and flashing.
- Maintains wood, metal, and masonry fences and non-electronic gates.
- Repair, replace, and maintain cast-in-place concrete sidewalks, parking areas, and subfloors.
- Plans and calculates requirements, applies building code knowledge, and completes construction tasks, including framing of ceilings, floors, and walls.
- Installs and repairs gypsum board, fire tape, finish, and texture.
- Installs and repairs wooden or metal door frames, doors, jambs, casing, and hardware.
- Installs flooring, including carpet, wood, tile, and vinyl.
- Installs ceiling systems such as suspended, fire-rated, direct-glue, wood, and specialty systems.
- Maintains waterproofing and caulking on expansion joints and weather stripping.
- Collaborates with the locksmith to inspect, adjust, and maintain locks, kick plates, door sweeps, closers, operators, and thresholds on all state facilities.
- Inventory, clean, and maintain hand tools and power tools, and keep a supply of basic building materials.
- Provides services to state employees to personalize and maintain furnishings in offices or cubicle spaces, and designs and constructs office accessories to accommodate employee needs.
- Installs partition walls and components to create cubicle walls, understanding ADA and fire code requirements.
- Designs and constructs picture and poster frames; hangs pictures, diplomas, posters, and various items, including artwork, bronze plaques, monitors, T.V.s, display cabinets, and shadow boxes.
- Assists other crafts and crews.
- Erects pre-built scaffolding and designs and constructs built-in scaffolds and work platforms as required.
- Moves furniture and office equipment to perform daily duties and relocate employees when needed.
- Assists in snow removal during blizzards or when other crews are unavailable.
- Demolishes and reconstructs areas to gain access to equipment, components, and utilities.
- Assists in emergency cleanup from roof leaks, broken pipes, and storm damage.
- Creates drawings or plans to design and construct custom furnishings and products, including material and cost estimates.
- Customizes or alters existing furnishings to meet customer needs.
- Designs and constructs custom cabinetry, casework, shelving, and furniture.
- Performs after-hours emergency repair and maintenance, including door repair, window repair, flood cleanup, lock and hardware repair, wind and storm damage, and vandalism repair.
- Overlooks the workmanship and performance of subcontractors working on state facilities.
- Assists in writing scopes of work for subcontractors, material specifications, scheduling projects, meeting subcontractors to assess jobs, and answering estimators’ questions or concerns.
- Assists project managers in overseeing, receiving, and assessing estimates.
- Maintains notes, schedule, and information on AIM and the facilities management software used.
- Records information such as daily schedule of work, time spent on tasks, work orders, customer requests, job costs, photos, and plans, and records communication between customers, other trade staff, or subcontractors.
- Applies and has basic knowledge of the use, application, and safety of various paints, stains, and finishes on existing surfaces, including doors, walls, windows, furniture, ceilings, and woodwork.
