Field Service Technician Job Description

This Field Service Technician role is based on‑site in Cheyenne, WY and focuses on installing, commissioning, and troubleshooting customer systems that utilize Direct Digital Control (DDC) technology. You will work directly at client locations to ensure building automation and control systems operate reliably, collaborating closely with engineers and project teams to support system startups, maintenance, and ongoing optimization.

Responsibilities
  • Install and commission customer systems that utilize Direct Digital Control (DDC) technology at client worksites in and around Cheyenne, WY.
  • Serve as the primary local contact for technical issues related to building automation and control systems.
  • Ensure systems operate properly by validating the performance of controls, sensors, and software components.
  • Verify field devices and system functionality using a laptop and appropriate diagnostic tools.
  • Travel to client sites to support installation, startup, commissioning, and maintenance activities.
  • Work with engineers on the startup and commissioning of customer systems in electronic, electrical, and pneumatic domains.
  • Follow drawing packages, wiring diagrams, and documentation during installation and commissioning, and update drawings and documentation as needed.
  • Set up workstations with all required software for system configuration, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
  • Communicate regularly with the project manager to provide project updates, discuss timelines, and eliminate issues as needed.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues throughout system startup, commissioning, and ongoing maintenance.
  • Perform commissioning and validation of equipment to confirm systems meet performance and design specifications.
  • Utilize building automation tools and protocols, including TCP/IP networks, to configure, monitor, and optimize systems.
  • Use test equipment such as multimeters to diagnose and resolve electrical and control‑related problems in the field.
Essential Skills
  • Hands‑on experience with mechanical systems and components related to HVAC and building automation.
  • Strong electrical skills, including working with control panels, wiring, and field devices.
  • Proven troubleshooting ability for mechanical and electrical equipment in a field service environment.
  • Experience with commissioning and validation of equipment and control systems.
  • Knowledge of building automation systems, including Direct Digital Control (DDC) technology.
  • Ability to use diagnostic tools such as multimeters for testing and troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with TCP/IP networks as they relate to building automation and control systems.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and follow drawing packages, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
  • Proficiency in using a laptop to verify field devices, configure systems, and run diagnostic software.
  • Effective communication skills to collaborate with engineers, technicians, and project managers.
  • Willingness and ability to travel to client sites as required.

Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience with HVAC systems and their integration into building automation platforms.
  • Experience in data centers, building automation installations, or similar technical environments.
  • Previous field service experience supporting electronic, electrical, or pneumatic control systems.
  • Experience setting up and configuring workstations with required software for control and monitoring.
  • Comfort working as part of a project team that includes project managers and multiple technicians.
  • Strong organizational skills to maintain accurate documentation and update drawing packages as systems evolve.
Work Environment

This position is based at a worksite in Cheyenne, WY, with standard working hours of approximately 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. You will work primarily on‑site at client facilities, performing installations, commissioning, and troubleshooting of building automation and control systems. The team structure typically includes one project manager and four technicians per team, with around 30 people in the broader group, providing a collaborative and supportive environment.
