SALARY: $45,036 to $63,049 Annually
Job Description
To service all city owned vehicles and equipment including lubrication, changing oil, fueling, and making minor repairs or adjustments, and to service and repair Police and Fire Department vehicles and transit buses.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities- Lubricate, change air filters, and check fluid levels on all city owned vehicles and equipment.
- Service calls, preventative maintenance on landfill, sanitation, street equipment, and compost equipment at their facilities.
- Inspect vehicle hydraulic systems, change tires, check, and replace lights as needed, check vehicles and equipment for proper operating condition and visible safety defects.
- Clean parts, engine, and vehicles with steam cleaner and other cleaning agents.
- Read odometer and other measurement devices and record data.
- Drive vehicles and construction and maintenance equipment in and out of service areas; deliver vehicles to appropriate location as assigned. Drive and operate lube/fuel truck.
- Repair and change tires, also service calls for replacing flat tires.
- Know how to operate a forklift safely and operate vehicle lift systems safely.
- Perform general maintenance and cleaning of shop area.
- Requisition and pick-up materials as required.
- Paint garbage cans for sanitation dept.
- May be required to be On-Call on evenings, weekends and carry On-Call phone.
- Adherence to safe work practices and procedures.
- Willing to work overtime on occasion.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as required.
- Be available to be contacted by phone in case of an emergency.
- Perform mechanical servicing work on all city owned vehicles and equipment.
- Operate a variety of hand and power tools and equipment in a safe and effective manner. Keep accurate records.
- Work independently in the absence of supervision. Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Required:
- High school or GED.
- CDL license within six (6) months of hire (may be extended based on LCCC program vacancy).
- Wear steel toe boots and city supplied uniforms.
Preferred:
- HAZMAT Certification.
- Two (2) years of equipment servicing experience.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for making observations, communicating with others, reading, and writing. The employee is also required to maintain the physical condition necessary for operating assigned equipment, walking, standing, kneeling, repeated bending or sitting for prolonged periods of time and lifting to 50 pounds.
Maintain mental capacity which allows the capability of making sound decisions demonstrating intellectual capabilities.
Shop environment: exposure to noise, dust, grease, smoke, fumes, gases, oils, antifreeze, and work or inspect in confined spaces.
