As a Diesel Technician in our Engine Shop, you are a valued member of our team, responsible for repairing and maintaining our customer's Medium & Heavy-Duty Trucks in our Engine Shop. This includes diagnosing issues, preventative maintenance, repairs, disassembly and reassembly and writing detailed work notes. This level of Technician may be requested to lead the Uptime Team, and/or mentor less experienced Technicians.

Essential Duties

Technical

  • Three (3) to five (5) years of Diagnostic experience required.
  • Maintain proficiency in the rebuilding of major components such as Engines and Transmissions on assigned equipment.
  • Ensure accurate diagnosis and the effective repair and/or replacement of components necessary for the proper functioning of assigned equipment.
  • Performs work as outlined on repair order with efficiency and accuracy, in accordance with dealership and factory standards.
  • Communicates with the parts department to obtain needed parts.
  • Saves and tags parts of the job if under warranty or if requested by the customer.
  • Examines assigned vehicle to determine if further safety or service work is required or recommended.
  • Communicates with service advisor/dispatcher immediately on repair updates and or delays.
  • Documents all work performed and recommended on the repair order.
  • Supervises work of any apprentice technicians as assigned.
  • Reports machinery defects or malfunctions to the supervisor.
  • Ensures that the vehicle is kept clean. Notifies service advisor/dispatcher immediately of anything that has happened to change the appearance or condition of the vehicle.
  • Maintains and is accountable for all dealership-owned tools and manuals. Return them to the proper place and in the same condition as when they were received.
  • Understands, keeps abreast of, and complies with federal, state, and local regulations, such as hazardous waste disposal, OSHA Right-to-Know, etc. Keeps abreast of manufacturer technical bulletins.
  • Operates all tools/equipment in a safe manner and reports any safety issues immediately to management.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications

  • High School Diploma and/or GED
  • Valid Driver's License required and/or CDL preferred
  • Ten plus years related experience and/or training
  • Master Technician Certifications in multiple areas.
  • Cummins Engine Repair Certification required
  • ASE Certification a plus
  • Basic computer skills

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations with only limited resources. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
