GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Make a lasting difference in the lives of individuals, families, and communities by serving as a Probation and Parole Agent with the Wyoming Department of Corrections. This position combines public safety, case management, and evidence-based interventions to help individuals successfully reintegrate into society while reducing recidivism and promoting long-term behavioral change.
In this role, you will supervise a diverse caseload of adult probationers and parolees, including misdemeanor and felony offenders with varying risks and needs. Using validated assessment tools, motivational interviewing techniques, and evidence-based practices, you will develop individualized case plans that encourage accountability, support positive decision-making, and foster sustainable behavior change.
Success requires building collaborative relationships with clients, victims, community partners, treatment providers, law enforcement agencies, courts, and correctional institutions. You will conduct office, home, and employment visits, facilitate cognitive intervention programming, monitor compliance with court and supervision requirements, and apply appropriate interventions, incentives, and sanctions to encourage progress toward supervision goals.
This position also plays a vital role in the criminal justice process through investigations, reporting and recommendations for courts and parole authorities, collaborating on inmate reentry planning, and engaging with victims to provide information, support, and safety planning.

- Maintain supervision of a caseload of adult probationers and parolees, which includes misdemeanor and felony cases.
- Utilize and analyze validated risk and needs assessments to determine appropriate supervision levels and develop individual case planning goals.
- Collaborate between government and private entities to enhance case management and support client behavior for long-term change.
- Identify external and internal motivators of change through motivational interviewing to assist in case plan development.
- Apply interventions, incentives, and sanctions within the criminal justice system to achieve desired behaviors.
- Facilitate cognitive intervention groups with clients and other evidence-based cognitive interventions to provide knowledge and enhance client motivation.
- Maintain documentation of all case management efforts in a case management system.
- Conduct visits with clients in the office, at home, and at workplaces, or other locations to verify compliance and support positive behavior.
- Collaborate with the Prison Division to investigate and offer guidance for a positive and effective reentry plan for inmates soon released into the community.
- Write reports to the Parole Board, Courts, or other stakeholders, requiring investigation, insight, and analysis to determine risk level and make recommendations.
- Interview, evaluate, and investigate the offender's background and criminal history to determine risks and needs.
- Interview victims for presentence investigation reports, determine restitution, and provide recommendations to the court, and maintain contact for educational and safety purposes throughout supervision.
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Social Work, Counseling, Sociology, Psychology, Criminal Justice, or Administration of Justice, along with progressive work experience in Probation and Parole, including experience in case management, risk/need assessments, cognitive group facilitation, investigations, report writing, and behavioral change concepts.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES- Knowledge of human behavior, crisis behavior, substance use, abuse, and addiction.
- Knowledge of the criminal justice system, department policies, procedures, and criminal and legal law.
- Knowledge of procedures used in criminal justice agencies and cognitive behavior programs.
- Knowledge of various computer software programs, including Google and Microsoft.
- Effective communication, both orally and in writing, with offenders and other professionals.
- Positive, pro-social role modeling for offenders.
- Judgment in highly stressful situations.
- Analysis of information from various sources and interpretation of risk/needs assessment tools.
