Resident Assistant
This is a non-employee position and is available for LCCC full-time students who live on campus.
Job Summary:
Resident Assistants assist and help students adapt to their transitions while living on-campus. RAs develop positive relationships with residents; provided active leadership to create a community on their floors; foster a community that supports students' involvement, academic success and personal growth; serve as a resource to residents for college services; and are active members of the Resident Hall Team. RAs will utilize skills in interpersonal communication, organization, mediation, problem solving and program planning.
Residence Hall staff receive a total scholarship/compensation package of room and board costs. All staff receive a double room as part of this package. (Including expanded cable TV, WIFI, high-speed internet service, utilities, and meal plan).
Other tasks may be assigned based on contemporary institutional need.

Essential Functions:
This position does not have an employee status with LCCC and is not eligible for compensatory or overtime pay provisions of the FLSA. This listing of essential duties is not all-inclusive, but representative; other duties may be assigned).
Be involved and engaged in your community
- RAs should be present within the Eagle Village Community. RAs will be present within staff functions and events. Be present and accessible to residents, spend adequate time on the RA's floor, and regularly interact with the hall/floor community.
- Create an inclusive and welcoming environment for all students.
- Role model positive personal, academic, and job-related behaviors.
Events and Personal Development
- Plan, implement, and document regular events in accordance with our Residential Learning Model.
- Keep residents informed of campus, Student Life, and Residential Living activities by posting flyers and directly communicating with all residents.
Policy Enforcement
On Call Responsibilities:
- Serve on call and perform duty functions as established by the Director or Assistant Director of Residential Living to enforce policies, ensure safety, and serve as a resource to the community.
- RAs will carry the on-call phone from 5pm to 8am Monday-Friday, and 24 hours on Weekends and during LCCC closures and breaks.
- Review, interpret, and uphold all items outlined in the Residence Hall Lease, Residence Hall Handbook, the College Catalog, Student Handbook and the Student Code of Conduct.
- Adhere to all Federal and State Laws as well as the LCCC policies both on and off campus. Violations of policies will be reported and cases will be adjudicated in accordance with the LCCC student conduct process and applicable outcomes and sanctions shall be assigned independently of any applicable performance management deemed necessary by Human Resources and Residential Living.
Desk and Customer Service
- RAs will provide service at the desk from 9am-9pm, 5 days a week. RAs will be responsible to work desk hours as determined by a schedule created by the Director and/or Assistant Director of Residential Living.
Financial Management
- RAs are entrusted to understand proper use of financial resources and understand purchasing policies.
Resident Assistant Development & Staff Function
Support Residential Living
- Perform all administrative functions the Director and Assistant Director of Residential Living and Administrative Assistant deem necessary such as check-in, check out, suite condition forms, weekly reports, community reports, etc.
- Assist with Residential Living promotion and sales efforts.
- Additional work and commitments that require additional time from the RA should be approved in advance by the Director of Residential Living. RAs should not work more than 10 hours per week unless otherwise approved by their supervisor.
Staff Function
- Attend training.
- Attend Staff meetings.
- Time Away
- Time away should be approved in advance by their supervisor. RAs may take up to 6 nights away during a month.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Physical/Mental Demands:
- Ability to maintain appropriate composure and necessary confidentiality with regard to both past and current employee, student, and donor data; documents; issues; etc., and respect privacy needs of employees, students, donors
- The ability to comply with highly inflexible deadlines is required; there will be multiple occurrences of sudden, urgent task completion required
- A variable work schedule will be required including long work days, evenings, and weekends as needed
- There may be occurrences of interacting with employees and/or students, past employees and/or students, members of the general public, and others who express opinions, may exhibit strong emotions, which will require the ability to interact professionally, diplomatically, and appropriately in such situations
