This position serves as a qualified equipment operator and/or CDL driver to support a wide variety of tasks in day‑to‑day operations. Job duties vary considerably, requiring flexibility and a diverse skill set. Compensation depends on project, location, and experience and is determined by the hiring supervisor at the time of hire.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS- Work safely in potentially hazardous environments.
- Operate high‑pressure power washing equipment.
- Offer labor support to crews when equipment operation is not the primary task.
- Lift and carry heavy objects up to 50 pounds.
- Proficiently use hand and power tools.
- Apply general construction and excavation skills.
- Show competency in operating various heavy equipment or the specific equipment required.
- Operate earth‑moving equipment such as skidsteer, compaction equipment, and loaders.
- Operate forklifts or powered industrial trucks.
- Operate aerial lifts and platforms.
- Operate hydrovacs.
- Operate CDL‑required transport.
- Operate other specialized equipment.
- Perform general maintenance and inspections of the equipment operated.
- Comprehend project plans and documents.
- Plan excavation and construction zones.
- Participate in daily JSA meetings.
- Complete daily equipment or vehicle inspections.
- Safely climb in and out of elevated equipment.
- Assist in daily inspection of safety equipment.
- Operator or CDL driver 2 includes the responsibilities above plus additional skills and traits.
- Operate trackhoe, dozer, motor grader, scraper, and other specialized equipment.
- Operate all functions of a hydrovac independently.
- Perform basic maintenance functions on the assigned equipment.
- Lead and manage a crew effectively and safely when the supervisor is absent.
- Mentor and train other operators on advanced equipment skill sets.
- Operate lowboy trailers, gooseneck trailers, or side dumps.
- Exemplify safety‑conscious decisions in daily work.
- Exemplify exceptional professionalism with customers and peers at all times.
- Perform DOT OQ tasks and complete DOT OQ testing for qualifications.
This position is not a supervisory role but is accountable for ensuring co‑workers work safely. The operator reports directly to their supervisor.
WORKING CONDITIONSWork may involve inclement or extreme weather, long hours, and variable shifts. Conditions vary by project.
QUALIFICATIONS- Pass pre‑employment drug and alcohol screening.
- Be punctual, reliable, and on time.
- Follow instructions and perform duties while unsupervised.
- Work proficiently with tools and equipment.
- Work well with others and maintain a positive attitude and strong work ethic.
- Communicate ideas and problems openly.
- Hold a valid driver’s license.
- Lifting up to 50 pounds frequently, 100 pounds regularly, and heavier weights in team situations with proper technique.
- Move quickly and safely across a work site, typically loose ground or uneven terrain.
- Stand, bend, crawl, stretch, lay, and squat to maintain equipment or perform adjustments.
- Have manual dexterity for detailed work at intervals.
- Have visual acuity for detailed tasks at intervals.
