Position Description

Responsible for the installation, maintenance, inspection and accuracy of natural gas measurement and control equipment. This includes a variety of EFM equipment, including but not limited to flow computers, gas chromatographs, SCADA equipment, regulators, temperature and pressure transducers, electronic and pneumatic controllers, relief valves, orifice meters, turbine meters, positive displacement meters and ultrasonic meters. Perform all work in compliance with company policies, procedures and tariff requirements.

Perform frequent audits of custody transfer meters and measurement data. Maintain acceptable DOT Operator Qualifications Compliance on related/assigned tasks. Required to respond to after‑hour “call outs” due to equipment and/or operational problems and must be willing to work overtime on an as needed basis. Reporting location:
Chicago Heights, IL. Approximate area of responsibility:
South East Chicago Metropolitan Area. Must live within an hour from reporting location.

Position Requirements
  • Ability to effectively organize, plan, prioritize, document and complete work with a minimum of supervision.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks to stay on assigned regulatory and contractual schedule.
  • Ability to work from written and verbal instructions.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Windows) and able to manipulate large spreadsheets and databases.
  • Actively support the region’s safety program.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to troubleshoot pneumatic, electronic and electrical equipment and controls.
  • Perform basic mechanical work associated with natural gas facilities.
  • Must be able to maneuver up to 100 lb with the assistance of safety devices such as bottle carts or hand carts.
  • Work outside in all weather conditions.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and a driving record acceptable to company standards.
  • Maintain a regular, dependable attendance and high level of performance.
  • Work with a team, take direction from supervisor(s), adhere to required work schedules, focus attention on details and follow work rules, as well as take on additional job responsibilities as needed.
  • Available for and provide emergency response after regular business hours, which may require carrying a personal communication device.
  • Travel may be required and anticipated inside and outside of the assigned area.
  • Candidates with experience in a related field or discipline who do not possess the above requirements will be considered. Must pass progressive testing over a 48‑month period from a level 1 technician to a level 4 technician. Candidates with higher levels of skill and experience may be brought on at a level 2 or higher.
Educational Requirements
  • Associate’s Degree in Applied Science, two‑year technical degree, or equivalent skills and work experience.
Preferred Experience , Skills and Knowledge
  • Experience with natural gas pipeline flow computers, instrumentation such as pressure transmitters, gas chromatographs, gas quality analyzers, SCADA equipment, electronic and pneumatic controllers, regulators, water bath indirect heaters, regulators and all natural gas meter types.
  • Knowledge of AGA, API and GPA standards.
  • Knowledge of National Electrical Code philosophies and installation requirements.
  • Experience with computer interface software, networking and data file management.
  • Knowledge of the tariffs and specified operating agreements for natural gas measurement facilities.
  • Experience with Maximo work order tracking is a plus.
