The Opportunity
Tetra Tech is looking for a part‑time Senior Engineer for our Chicago, IL location.
Position SummaryThe selected candidate will provide support to a wide variety of projects and clients throughout the United States. This position may also support various contracts for federal, state, and commercial clients.
Essential Job FunctionsThe following duties are considered essential to the role. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions:
- Support and manage sediment remediation projects and task orders including feasibility studies, pre‑design investigations, treatability/pilot studies, remedial design, and remedial actions.
- Communicate and interact with project clients, vendors, and subcontractors.
- Support the development and implementation of environmental plans and procedures.
- Support and oversee development of technical specifications, calculation packages, basis of design report, and design drawings for sediment remediation projects.
- Support proposal, project schedule and cost estimate development.
- Interpret CQC/CQA data and troubleshoot to improve production rates.
- Prepare technical report deliverables, including data evaluation, interpretation, and presentation.
- Mentor and train junior staff.

Required Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering or related field required.
- 40‑hour OSHA HAZWOPER and current 8‑hour refresher certification required.
- Minimum 15 years of environmental consulting or related experience.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills (both written and verbal).
- Highly motivated and customer focused.
- Ability to work successfully both independently and in a team environment.
- Project management experience.
- Excellent technical writing and communication skills, as well as proficiency with MS Office applications.
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental regulations.
- Experience with completion and/or management of sediment RI/FS, remedial design and remedial actions.
- Experience and knowledge of U.S. EPA, and/or state environmental programs.
In addition, the following is required:
- Passing a criminal background check.
- Driving on a regular basis. Passing a motor vehicle record background check and maintaining a valid driver's license and good driving record is required.
- Professional licenses or certifications such as Professional Engineer preferred.
Candidates must be able to:
- Walk around project sites in all types of terrains.
- Lift and carry equipment weighing up to 35lbs.
- Meet physical demands of hazardous waste site work.
- Complete annual medical monitoring program.
- This position will mostly consist of office work.
- Project sites may be outdoors within the U.S. during all seasons, including peak summer and winter conditions.
- This position offers the flexibility to work in our Chicago office or remotely.
- This part‑time position requires up to 10% travel, which may include overnight travel.
- Travel to client sites and other locations to conduct meetings, site visits, etc. will be required.
- Must be able to drive on a regular basis. Passing a motor vehicle record background check and maintaining a valid driver's license and good driving record is required.
