Job Summary

Medical Technologist

Location: Jesse Brown VA Medical Center – Chicago, IL

Pay: 35.00/hr plus 4.95 H&W
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM (40 hours/week)

Clearance: Background investigation required
Contract Type: Federal – Integrated Critical Staffing Program (ICSP)

Position Overview

We are seeking a qualified Medical Technologist to provide full-time clinical laboratory services within the VA medical system. This role will support the Laboratory Medicine Service with comprehensive testing and diagnostic analysis across multiple modalities.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Perform full scope of lab procedures in chemistry, hematology, urinalysis, serology, bacteriology, and immunohematology
  • Analyze and validate specimens; identify abnormal results and report critical values
  • Operate, troubleshoot, and maintain lab instruments and equipment
  • Conduct quality control, calibration, and validation studies
  • Collect patient samples as needed (phlebotomy)
  • Document and verify results in VA laboratory information systems
  • Maintain lab inventory and follow all safety and compliance protocols
  • Communicate professionally with interdisciplinary staff and support clerical duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Clinical Laboratory Science from a NAACLS-accredited program
  • Certification from ASCP or AMT required
  • Active, unrestricted license in any U.S. state or territory
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in the past 3 years
  • BLS (CPR) certification from AHA or equivalent required
  • Proficiency in EHR systems preferred (VISTA/CPRS or Oracle Cerner)
  • Must be computer literate and proficient in English
