Responsibilities

As a Chief Nursing Officer leading one of our facilities, you’ll be responsible for:

  • Providing strategic leadership as the senior executive position responsible for all nursing and other designated patient care functions and services within the hospital organization.
  • Functioning at an executive level to provide effective and coordinated leadership to deliver nursing care, treatment, and services.
  • Assuming responsibility for assessing, planning, coordinating, implementing and evaluating nursing practice on a facility level.
  • Assuming 24/7 responsibility and has accountability to ensure high quality, safe and appropriate nursing care, competency of clinical staff, and appropriate resource management related to patient care.
  • Representing nursing concerns on the governing board and at medical staff leadership meetings.
  • Serving as a member of professional staff committees in matters pertaining to patient care and has authority to speak on behalf of nursing and clinical areas to same extent that other hospital leaders speak for their respective disciplines or departments.
  • Demonstrating thorough knowledge of Federal, State, Local Laws, and Accreditation Standards.
  • Implementing standard of nursing practice and standards of care, annually reviewing and revising as necessary to reflect changes in nursing practice.
  • Demonstrating knowledge of proper identification and reporting of medical/health care errors. Protecting the patient in the event of a medical/healthcare error and as appropriate, assisting in medical/health care error resolution.
  • Demonstrating knowledge of responsible cost controls mechanisms to insure maximum effectiveness of funds expended from approved departmental budgets.

Qualifications

In order to be considered for a Chief Nursing Officer position within our facilities, you’ll possess the following qualifications:

  • Active and current professional registered nurse licensed in the state in which they practice is required.
  • An academic degree in nursing is required, and a postgraduate degree in nursing or related field (may include health care administration or business administration) or a written plan with specified time-linesto obtain a postgraduate degree is required.
  • Current BLS (AHA) certificate and maintain current.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressive management experience in a facility environment, as a Nursing Director of multiple, complex nursing departments.
  • Minimum of two (2) years previous leadership or administrative experience required.
  • Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proven leadership ability and facility operational expertise.
