Project Accountant

Overview

A leading infrastructure construction firm is seeking a Project Accountant to join its team on a major development project in Chicago. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in construction accounting, attention to detail, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

• Support monthly financial close processes and assist with internal reporting
• Prepare account reconciliations for cash, liabilities, fixed assets, and payroll accruals
• Assist in the preparation of budgets, forecasts, and variance analyses
• Review and process vendor invoices, ensuring accuracy and proper approvals
• Manage petty cash disbursements and perform monthly reconciliations
• Maintain accurate financial records and ensure compliance with accounting standards
• Coordinate with banks for transfers and letters of credit
• Support internal and external audits by preparing necessary documentation
• Track and maintain inventory of fixed assets and project-related materials
• Identify opportunities to improve financial processes and cost efficiency

• Bachelor s or Master s degree in Commerce, Accounting, or a related field
• Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience, preferably in construction or infrastructure projects
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards
• Proficiency in reconciliations, budgeting, and invoice processing
• Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines
• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
• Familiarity with project-based financial structures and banking procedures is a plus
