Assistant Vice President of Recruitment and Business Development at Connect Search

Location: Chicago, IL (Hybrid / Onsite as required)

About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced Assistant Controller to join a growing accounting firm in Chicago. The ideal candidate will oversee accounting operations, ensure accurate financial reporting, drive process improvements, and mentor accounting staff. This is a key leadership role that provides exposure to multiple business units and the opportunity to influence financial strategy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and fixed assets
  • Prepare, analyze, and review consolidated financial statements for accuracy and compliance
  • Coordinate and support external audits and regulatory reporting
  • Lead and mentor accounting staff, promoting professional development
  • Evaluate and improve accounting systems, processes, and workflows
  • Implement process improvement initiatives to optimize ERP system usage and operational efficiency
  • Collaborate with management teams to provide financial insights and support strategic decisions
  • Perform ad hoc financial analysis and special projects as requested

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA designation highly preferred
  • Significant progressive accounting experience, including leadership/management experience
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and accounting systems
  • Experience with ERP systems and advanced Excel skills
  • Excellent leadership, analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills
