Billing Specialist

Vaco has partnered with a client in the legal industry in Chicago to fill a Billing Specialist position. This role requires one year of experience and supports a client-focused environment, ensuring accurate and timely billing while maintaining system integrity.

Job type: full time

Pay: $32.97/hour – $41.21/hour (based on experience, education, and skill level)

Expected hours: 38-40 hours per week

Physical setting: office

Schedule:

Monday to Friday

Experience:

At least one year of general accounting or billing experience; legal billing and electronic billing experience preferred

Work location:

In office for first 90 days; then hybrid schedule

• Prepare, review, and edit client pre-bills
• Ensure accuracy and timely distribution of final invoices
• Process write-offs and write-downs with appropriate approvals
• Maintain accurate billing system data
• Respond to attorney inquiries regarding bills and billing procedures
• Follow established billing cycles and cut-off deadlines
• Ensure compliance with internal billing policies
• Work independently while managing multiple tasks under tight deadlines
• Assist with basic financial analysis, including reviewing client billing histories

• Associate’s degree in accounting, business, or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Minimum of one year of general accounting or legal billing experience; legal billing and electronic billing experience preferred
• Experience with specialized accounting or billing software preferred
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Proficiency in spreadsheet applications, including Excel
• High attention to detail and strong numerical aptitude
