Staff Accountant (Part-Time, Contract)
Employment Type: Contract/Temporary (2-3 months) with potential for extension or conversion to full-time
Schedule: 8-16 hours per week with flexible days and times (hours may increase slightly as needed)
Location: Remote following a brief onboarding and training period
Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to support day-to-day accounting operations for a dynamic retail organization. This part-time contract role is ideal for a motivated accounting professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment, adapts quickly to new systems, and brings a collaborative, service-driven mindset. You will play a key role in daily cash activities, reconciliations, month-end close, and process improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Post daily cash transactions and prepare related journal entries
- Perform daily bank and cash reconciliations; research and resolve discrepancies
- Support the Accounting Manager with weekly check runs, ACH payments, and wire transfers
- Investigate and clear exceptions, including duplicate or unmatched entries
- Assist with general ledger account reconciliations (cash, AR/AP, accrued expenses, inventory-related accounts)
- Prepare routine journal entries and support month-end close documentation and checklists
- Provide ad hoc support to the Controller, Finance leadership, and cross-functional partners
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal control standards
- Participate in small projects aimed at improving and streamlining accounting processes
- 2-3+ years of relevant accounting experience (Staff Accountant or equivalent)
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Ability to quickly learn new ERPs and financial systems (e.g., SAP, JD Edwards, Net Suite, Infor, Epicor, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar)
- Exceptional attention to detail, organization, and follow-through
- Proven ability to handle sensitive financial information with confidentiality
- 8-16 hours per week with flexible scheduling; hours may increase during month-end or project needs
- Initial contract duration of 2-3 months, with potential to extend or convert to a permanent full-time role based on performance and business needs
