Patients who come to UChicago Medicine with head and neck diseases can rest assured that our experts' internationally recognized expertise enables them to offer the most advanced and innovative approaches to the management of otolaryngology (ENT) disorders. Subspecialists are equipped to treat allergies, inner ear and hearing disorders, head and neck cancers, speech and voice disorders, and much more. Our diverse programs ensure every patient utilizes their senses as best as possible in order to lead healthy and productive lives.

Through the section's comprehensive research efforts, faculty members and researchers hope to find new and better ways of treating a broad range of diseases. One such research project that has received widespread national attention and support is Project Aspire and its sister project the Thirty Million Words Initiative, which aim to use family-centered curriculum and parent language to bridge the achievement gap between groups of children.

Job Information

Job Summary:

Under minimal supervision, the Project Assistant IV provides highly complex clerical support for the academic, clinical and administrative operations and services of the section of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery. May serve as the subject matter expert for other clerical staff.

Responsibilities:

* Provides clerical support for faculty, which includes but is not limited to, calendar management; screening patient calls and requests; preparing and updating patient files in EPIC; scheduling in EPIC, processing and disseminating referring physician letters; coordinating compliance, professional practice evaluations, and credentialing efforts; processing orders on the Buy Site purchase order system; processing financial transactions in the GEMS reimbursement system, ePayment system, and ACCTS cost transfer system;

conducting insurance pre-certifications; and organizing communications with patients.

* Provides prompt and efficient resolution to highly complex clerical problems and offers guidance on problem resolution to other clerical support staff.

* Provides basic educational information to patients and their families about procedures and surgeries.

* Creates and maintains spreadsheets and databases, and may provide lead support with data entry and data projects.

* Adapt workflows to accommodate needs, priorities, and fluctuation of patient volumes according to faculty and leadership expectations.

* Performs other related work as needed.

Education, Experience, or

Certifications:

Education:

* High school diploma or GED required.

* Bachelor's degree preferred.

Experience:

* Five years of office experience required.

* Hospital or academic medicine experience required.

* Electronic medical record (EMR) experience preferred.

* Patient scheduling experience preferred.

* Standard Office Environment.

* Stand for short or extended time periods.

* Make repetitive wrist, hand or finger movements.

Pay Range:

* $23.08 - $33.79 per hour.
