Overview

The Business Service Representative develops and implements an agreed upon business outreach plan to meet business goals of expanding customer base.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a business outreach plan; identify and communicate employment and other opportunities suitable for individuals or businesses; share events and information hosted by partners with other Goodwill employees and departments; attend local job fairs and community events; report and record required information into the appropriate platform.
  • Schedule on and offsite events that promote Goodwill programs. Partner with internal Goodwill clients, including but not limited to Goodwill Retail and Talent Bridge, to identify employment opportunities in line with long‑term employer goals, mission, vision, and values.
  • Develop annual goals and growth plans establishing individual accountabilities and work volume; implement strategies to achieve organization and Mission Services goals; typically work on projects/initiatives spanning 3–12 months.
  • Analyze the business climate of industry sectors, conduct research, make cold calls and business outreach calls; recognize and understand current employment trends; adapt to changing markets; develop a strong understanding of customer and community needs and provide effective solutions.
  • Demonstrate a consultative sales‑related approach; procure/maintain new relationships; visit area businesses and schedule presentations; conduct outbound calls to schedule and run presentations; maintain existing customer accounts; cultivate long‑lasting relationships.
  • Conduct studies and surveys on needs or problems to obtain data required for solutions.
  • Develop focused business outreach plan detailing activities to follow during a set time frame by working closely with the program/project manager.
  • Understand and effectively communicate the program’s vision, models, and long‑term strategies.
  • Participate in job and/or information fairs, events, seminars, and meetings to refer participants to Goodwill programs for placement services.
  • Prepare tracking reports and submit documentation for monthly reports; maintain accurate records of all prospecting/follow‑up activities; update employer/educator client files; organize and maintain client database.
  • Meet minimum targeted metrics defined by program goals and/or contractual guidelines.
  • Proactively address problems and ensure timely resolution of customer concerns; react positively to change; adhere to company policies, procedures, and codes.
  • Effectively plan and manage own work; serve as team member or subject matter expert on formal projects; communicate appropriately with supervisor; follow through on learning and skill building to adapt to change.
  • Work independently with periodic review; solve problems of moderate to advanced complexity; identify root cause, interpret data and resolve issues.
  • Understand and apply professional principles and skills within area of specialization to modify processes to resolve situations.
  • Champion Goodwill’s community engagement initiatives and serve as an ambassador for Goodwill in the wider community.
  • Responsible for completing other duties/responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements
  • Two years of college education or experience equivalency, and a minimum of 3 years experience. Associate degree preferred with at least three years relevant experience generating new accounts and maintaining accounts in both private and public sectors. High school graduates / GED equivalent with 5 years of relevant experience accepted.
  • Experience in Workforce Development or career counseling or transferable skills required in addition to at least one year of outbound sales experience creating business contacts and promoting services through presentations; proven successful track record of relationship building and leveraging business relationships to procure opportunities.
