Overview

The Business Development Manager will be an integral member of the Business Development Team, working closely with the Business Development Director and Specialists. This role takes the lead supporting the implementation of the practice group’s strategic and commercial priorities and working with partners who have Business Development responsibilities in M&A, Capital Markets and Real Estate to provide practical business development and client development support.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with lead partners to support pitching and new business efforts.
  • Execute pitches, proposals, and RFPs by working with team members and industry groups to develop winning strategies.
  • Identify differentiators from competitors and assist with drafting pitch materials.
  • Maintain and update pitch content, materials, and client information; seek opportunities to enhance content for innovation while meeting client needs.
  • Participate in scoping and preparation for in-person meetings and pitches.
  • Work with the DB Director, lead partners, and practice development colleagues to develop and implement the business and client development strategy for the Strategic Transactions practice group.
  • Support the development and maintenance of key client relationships, including organizing client meetings, tracking follow-ups, and identifying cross‑selling opportunities.
  • Partner with DB Directors, Managers, Marketing, and other business support teams to:
    • Identify and recommend opportunities for integrated branding and profile‑raising campaigns.
    • Assess conferences, events, and sponsor ships; advise lawyers on selection, participation, and execution.
    • Target appropriate clients and markets for thought leadership and other materials.
  • Support the development of existing client relationships in collaboration with business support colleagues by:
    • Organize, participate in, and maintain records of business development meetings.
    • Take responsibility for aspects of client and target development initiatives.
  • Build strong knowledge of the strategic transactions practice by commissioning and conducting business research and sharing insights and intelligence with the team.
  • Develop a solid understanding of adjacent practices and industry group services, including their strategies, priorities, and clients.
  • Act as a connector to break down silos and promote knowledge sharing across teams and departments.
  • Communicate best practices and business development successes across the group.
  • Develop and host training sessions for the BD team and other business support departments.
  • Monitor and report on the effectiveness of business development initiatives, using metrics and feedback to refine strategies.
  • Prepare regular updates for lead partners on business development activities and ROI.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Master of Business Administration degree (MBA) preferred but not required.
  • Minimum of eight years of experience in business development within a professional services firm.
  • Superior client service skills.
  • Quickly able to establish credibility with Business Development Directors and key stakeholders with a knowledgeable approach.
