We’re hiring on behalf of a well-established civil construction firm with a 60+ year legacy of delivering high-impact infrastructure projects across excavation, asphalt, concrete, and environmental services.

The organization is seeking a seasoned Roadway Construction Superintendent to lead field operations for highway, runway, and large-scale site development projects—with a focus on earthmoving and haul logistics.

This role oversees the daily activities of both union and non-union crews, coordinates with subcontractors, manages schedules, and ensures quality and safety standards are met throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate delivery of materials, tools, and equipment to meet scheduled milestones.
  • Manage daily and weekly subcontractor scheduling; maintain close communication with the Project Manager.
  • Monitor project progress, report material usage, manage costs, and adjust schedules as needed to meet key deadlines.
  • Accurately record crew time, daily production quantities, and field data in coordination with the project engineer.
  • Conduct quality inspections to ensure adherence to project specifications and timelines.
  • Maintain and submit trucking logs, material tickets, and JULIE (underground utility locate) orders.
  • Address field concerns, resolve conflicts, and support site personnel with on-the-ground decision making.
Required Qualifications
  • Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and field experience.
  • Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience in heavy highway excavation or similar field.
  • Strong leadership, coordination, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and respond effectively to changes in the field.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word.
  • Understanding of industry safety standards, regulations, and best practices.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with MS Project, Primavera P6, Viewpoint, and HCSS Heavy Bid / Heavy Job.
  • Experience working with union crews and managing excavation-heavy scopes.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Comfortable standing for up to 12 hours with periodic breaks.
  • Capable of stooping, climbing, walking uneven terrain, and driving long distances as required on active job sites.
Ideal Candidate Traits
  • Problem solver with a proactive mindset and a focus on completing jobs on time and within budget.
  • Strong communicator able to work across all levels of site personnel and subcontractors.
  • Committed to safety-first culture and team accountability.
