Position
:
Senior Director of Construction. This role oversees construction projects throughout the development process, including grand openings, ensuring timely completion and adherence to company quality standards and applicable building codes. Manages a team of Construction and Development Managers, Directors of Construction responsible for remodels and small projects in assigned divisions, and external contractors/vendors. Provides strategic leadership and direction for the construction department, aligning construction goals with the company’s overall business objectives.
This position will be based out of our Boise, Idaho campus location or one of our main regional offices (Seattle, WA, Pleasanton, CA, Portland, OR, Denver, CO, Dallas, TX, Chicago, IL, Fullerton, CA, or Phoenix, AZ).
Responsibilities- Manage construction projects (New Stores, Remodels, Initiatives, Surplus & Major Projects) and capital spend to meet company standards for time, cost, quality, and safety.
- Assign projects to the Construction project team and supervise performance per company standards for time, cost, quality, and safety.
- Collaborate with leadership on staffing and act as liaison between Retail Operations and the construction team for projects within the division.
- Liaise with corporate development and other departments (Purchasing, Store Planning, PMO, Accounting, Analytics, Real Estate).
- Conduct regular field inspections to ensure contractor/Subcontractor compliance with contract documents and take corrective action as needed.
- Review and approve contractor payments per contracts, change orders, and purchase orders.
- Coordinate store equipment and fixture setup activities to ensure timely occupancy, including delivery and installation of equipment, utility connections, refrigeration startup, occupancy/municipal licenses, and merchandising setup.
- Provide design and construction expertise to relevant departments for maintenance, repair, and lifecycle questions.
- Assemble and approve contractor bidder lists; conduct performance evaluations of contractors, architects, and engineers at project completion.
- Execute disaster recovery plans for assigned areas; provide budget estimating to operations and R&D of the Division; monitor capital budget and report forecasts to leadership.
- Oversee design and construction for assimilation of acquisition stores and for dark-store surrender/tenant activity.
- Provide training and mentorship to Construction Project Managers and Coordinators; review performance and provide feedback and direction.
- Coordinate with corporate partners to ensure standards, compliance, processes, and policies are followed and implement strategic plans for the construction department.
- Lead long-term construction strategies, including sustainability initiatives and innovative methods; identify and prioritize projects to support growth and expansion.
- Develop and implement construction policies, procedures, and best practices to ensure consistency and efficiency; represent the construction department in executive meetings.
- Manage relationships with key stakeholders, ensure compliance with laws and standards, and drive safety improvements across projects.
- Drive adoption of new technologies and methodologies to enhance construction processes and outcomes.
- Bachelor’s degree in General Business, Building Science, Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering, or a related field preferred. Certified Construction Manager credential preferred. Relevant work experience also acceptable.
