Overview
Field Engineer - Transit role at RINA in Chicago, IL, within the North America Infrastructure & Mobility Division. This position will work from the project office located at 11203 S. Corliss Ave, Chicago, IL 60628. Public transportation is not available.
Compensation: $31.25-$48.09 per hour + overtime, commensurate with education and experience.

Key Responsibilities- Monitor and document contractor work and existing infrastructure status to ensure compliance with contract documents.
- Verify work is installed in accordance with Quality Requirements of Specifications, Plans, and Standards.
- Attend required training and maintain current training as required.
- Identify field problems in advance and report them to the supervisor in a timely manner.
- Recommend solutions to design, construction, and project-related problems.
- Track daily progress, maintain field logs, take progress photos, and submit Daily Inspection Reports via email or Trimble as required.
- Verify contractor testing and inspection of the work and materials being placed.
- Assist with project administration and prioritize safety, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations.
- Review shop drawings and schedules for constructability.
- Be familiar with project RFIs, Submittals, and other relevant documents.
- Track work on Time & Material basis (T&M) if required.
- Support coordination of third-party utility work, flagging, and shutdown activities.
- Participate in field meetings, site walks, and coordinate with stakeholders and internal teams.
- Maintain records for potential change orders, claims, and as-built documentation.
- Work on-site or at the project field office; on-site work may include night and weekend work as required.
- Demonstrate positive work attitude and behaviors.
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or construction management preferred; relevant experience will be considered in lieu of education.
- 3+ years of field experience in construction; transit or infrastructure project experience preferred.
- Familiarity with reading and interpreting construction plans, specifications, and submittals.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and basic knowledge of project management or field reporting software (Trimble Unity Construct / e-Builder, SharePoint, and Bluebeam).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills recommended.
- Valid driver’s license
- A personal vehicle to travel to project sites may be required
