About the work

Alchemy supports major education publishers on the development of digital and print learning products. We are looking for an Italian language subject matter expert to revise the assessment program for a second edition introductory Italian product, working directly in the publisher's authoring platform.

This is assessment revision work rather than content authoring. You will be revising existing tests so they align to a new print edition, not writing a course from scratch.

What the work consists of
  • Revising 32 flat tests held in the product's activity bank, consisting of A and B versions of 12 chapter tests, 2 midterms and 2 final exams. Each test contains 11 items or fewer.
  • Keeping each A and B pair comparable in difficulty, coverage and length while making sure the two versions are not identical. This is the central quality requirement of the role.
  • Revising between 20 and 50 percent of each test so it aligns to the new print edition, working from the print PDF supplied in the shared project folder.
  • Evaluating 4 Integrated Performance Assessments and providing written findings.
  • Reviewing all revised items for linguistic accuracy, appropriate vocabulary and grammar level, and cultural authenticity.
  • Following the publisher's World Languages authoring guidelines and checklists throughout.
  • Joining a short weekly check in with the project manager, up to 30 minutes, as needed.
Requirements
  • Fluent or near native Italian, with the ability to judge register, usage and cultural authenticity in instructional material.
  • Demonstrable experience writing or revising language assessments at the introductory post secondary level.
  • Working knowledge of parallel form test construction, meaning you can build two versions of the same test that are equivalent without being interchangeable.
  • Comfort working inside a publisher authoring platform. Training on the specific platform is provided, but you should be at ease learning a web based content system.
  • Ability to work to a fixed delivery schedule and respond to questions from the learning design team within one business day.
Preferred
  • Prior experience with publisher provided digital products.
  • Experience with integrated performance assessment, or with ACTFL proficiency frameworks.
  • Previous work on a second edition or revision cycle rather than a new build.
Before you apply, please note
  • The publisher provisions VPN, file share and authoring platform access before work begins, so onboarding is complete before the delivery window opens.
  • AI tools may not be used on client content without prior written approval from the publisher. This is a term of our client agreement and it is not negotiable. Standard dictionaries and language reference works are fine. If you are unsure whether a particular tool qualifies, ask before using it.
  • All work is performed on a work made for hire basis.
