The Department of Pediatrics at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria seeks a Pediatric Hematologist/Oncologist for a position as Assistant/Associate Professor of Pediatrics either MD or MD/PhD to enhance a growing division. The main responsibility is to work as physician scientist committing time and effort in basic/translational research in the laboratory in field of pediatric oncology. The physician scientist will be expected to engage in active collaborative research and build clinical and/or translational research in the division.

The physician scientist will have access to existing lab space. The position requires 3 years of Pediatrics Residency and 3 years of Hematology/oncology Fellowship. The ideal candidate will be BC/BE in Pediatrics and Pediatric Hematology/Oncology and will hold or have applied for an Illinois physician’s license.

• Provide care of inpatients and outpatients with a variety of pediatric hematologic and oncologic problems, including those followed at the OSF Children’s Hospital of Illinois Cancer and Blood disorder Institute.
• Dedicated time in the lab to conduct basic or translational research in pediatric oncology at UICOMP, Peoria Campus.
• See referral hematology/oncology consultations from throughout the Central Illinois Region.
• Fully participate in teaching programs in hematology and oncology for undergraduate medical students and residents and participate in the undergraduate, graduate, and continuing education programs of the Department.
• Organize and conduct bench and/or clinical research in the field of pediatric hematology/oncology.
• Participate in cooperative research efforts and clinical trials research protocols e Children’s Research Hospital, Memphis, Tennessee and the Children’s Oncology Group (COG). This clinic is both a St. Jude affiliate as well as active COG site.
• Perform other duties of a university faculty member including committee assignments, curriculum development, student counseling, and administration, as needed.
• Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

• Eligible for licensure in Illinois.
• Board certified/eligible in Pediatrics and Pediatric Hematology/Oncology.
• 3 years of Pediatrics Residency and 3 years of Hematology/Oncology Fellowship.
• MD/DO or equivalent.
• Experience in basic/translational lab work.

UICOMP is one of the three regional campuses of the University of Illinois College of Medicine, one of the largest public medical schools in the country. The Department of Pediatrics is one of the largest departments  collaboration with the OSF Health Care Children’s Hospital of Illinois, the Department has 19 divisions and over 145 faculty members providing general pediatrics and subspecialty services to the pediatric population in Central Illinois.

The current research infrastructure within the Department includes an office of research, a dedicated biostatistician and an internal research funding mechanism to support our faculty.

Located in Peoria, OSF Health Care Children’s Hospital of Illinois is the third largest pediatric hospital in Illinois and the most comprehensive hospital for kids downstate. It has 136 beds and more than 140 pediatric subspecialists. The hospital cares for more children in Illinois than any hospital outside of Chicago. Formally established as a pediatric hospital within the walls of OSF Health Care Saint Francis Medical Center in 1990, it has more than 7,000 inpatient admissions, 75,000 outpatient specialty visits, 2,400 newborn deliveries, and 18,000 emergency department visits each year.
