The Department of Pediatrics at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria seeks a Pediatric Hematologist/Oncologist for a position as Assistant/Associate Professor of Pediatrics either MD or MD/PhD to enhance a growing division. The main responsibility is to work as a physician scientist, committing time and effort to basic/translational research in the laboratory in the field of pediatric oncology.

The physician scientist will be expected to engage in active collaborative research and build clinical and/or translational research in the division. The physician scientist will have access to existing lab space.

The position requires 3 years of Pediatrics Residency and 3 years of Hematology/Oncology Fellowship. The ideal candidate will be BC/BE in Pediatrics and Pediatric Hematology/Oncology and will hold or have applied for an Illinois physician's license. Physician scientist will also engage in caring for inpatients and outpatients with a variety of pediatric hematologic and oncologic problems, including those followed at the OSF Children's Hospital of Illinois Cancer and Blood Disorder Institute.

The individual hired to this position will:

  • See referral hematology/oncology consultations from throughout the Central Illinois Region.
  • Fully participate in teaching programs in hematology and oncology for undergraduate medical students and residents and participate in the undergraduate, graduate, and continuing education programs of the Department.
  • Participate in cooperative research efforts and clinical trials research protocols e Children's Research Hospital, Memphis, Tennessee and the Children's Oncology Group (COG).
Position Summary

Pediatric Hematologist Oncologist and Physician Scientist with interest/expertise in lab work at Assistant/Associate/Professor of Pediatrics level.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • The position includes care of inpatients and outpatients with a variety of pediatric hematologic and oncologic problems, including those followed at the OSF Children's Hospital of Illinois Cancer and Blood Disorder Institute.
  • Position includes dedicated time in the lab to conduct individual basic or translational research in pediatric oncology at the University of Illinois College of Medicine, Peoria Campus.
  • See referral hematology/oncology consultations from throughout the Central Illinois Region.
  • Fully participate in teaching programs in hematology and oncology for undergraduate medical students and residents and participate in the undergraduate, graduate, and continuing education programs of the Department.
  • Organize and conduct bench and/or clinical research in the field of pediatric hematology/oncology.
  • Participate in cooperative research efforts and clinical trials research protocols e Children's Research Hospital, Memphis, Tennessee and the Children's Oncology Group (COG). This clinic is both a St Jude affiliate as well as active COG site.
  • Perform other duties of a university faculty member including committee assignments, curriculum development, student counseling, and administration, as needed.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Eligible for licensure in Illinois.
  • Board certified/eligible in Pediatrics and Pediatric Hematology/Oncology.
  • 3 years of Pediatrics Residency and 3 years of Hematology/Oncology Fellowship.
  • MD/DO or equivalent.
  • Experience in basic/translational lab work.
