Job Title: Resource Coordinator - Sustainable Community Schools (SCS)
Location: Lawndale

The Resource Coordinator – SCS

This position is one of three key roles in the school community along with the School Administration and the Advisory Committee. The Coordinator will be responsible for the overall feel of the program and for developing a greater sense of community within the school. As part of the Sustainable Community School (SCS) model, this role will work in alignment with community-driven strategies to improve student success and engagement.

Sustainable Community Schools are rooted in equity, collaboration, and holistic development, with demonstrated outcomes such as reduced absenteeism, improved academic performance, and better health outcomes.

Duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Develop focused, creative and interactive academic and enrichment programs.
  • Design and implement programming aligned with the Sustainable Community Schools (SCS) model.
  • Convene and facilitate the SCS Advisory Committee (school admin, teachers, parents, community members, and other CBOs) on a regular basis.
  • In collaboration with the Advisory Committee, identify the needs of the school and its students and align program resources to address these needs.
  • Represent Family Focus at LSC, NCLB and other school based or community based meetings.
  • Responsible for student and family recruitment and the execution of participant retention strategies.
  • Assist the Program Manager in creating external partnerships with community organizations to bring in much needed program resources (in-kind donations, funding, free or donated programming, etc.) for the sustainability of the program.
  • Plan and implement family night, parental involvement activities, community celebrations, and student showcases.
  • Maintain regular contact with key school administration personnel and teachers to support program alignment with school day activities and Illinois Learning Standards when appropriate.
  • Ensure the collection of quality data including daily attendance, grades, satisfaction surveys, needs assessments, etc.
  • Establish clear behavior expectations for program participants and ensure that they are fully established throughout the program.
  • Fulfill additional reporting, outreach, and engagement benchmarks as required by the Sustainable Community Schools model in collaboration with CPS and Family Focus leadership.
The ideal candidate will have the following education and experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in education, social work or related field.
  • At least 3 years experience in youth programming preferably in a school setting.
  • In some locations, candidates will be required to have bilingual skills (English/Spanish).
  • Ability to communicate with different audiences including school administration, teachers, parents, students and community members.
  • Understanding of Illinois Learning Standards and experience providing educational enrichment services to youth.
  • Computer skills – word processing, internet research, spreadsheets, create outreach materials.
  • Must be available evenings and some Saturdays.
  • Travel within the community will be required.
