Daley College’s Adult Education Department is seeking qualified Part-Time Adult Educators to provide instruction to students in areas such as Adult Basic Education (ABE), General Education Development (GED) with focus on Math or Language Arts, and English as a Second Language (ESL).
ADULT EDUCATOR - PT
Daley College’s Adult Education Department is seeking qualified Part-Time Adult Educators to provide instruction to students enrolled in ABE, GED (Math or Language Arts focus), and ESL. The ideal candidate will have a passion for teaching, a commitment to the mission of the community college, and demonstrated success in employing effective teaching strategies that meet diverse student needs.
- Takes attendance and monitors class enrollment.
- Assists with program registration.
- Participates in staff development programs as required.
- Develops class syllabi and appropriate class materials and curriculum for instruction.
- Evaluates student progress and determines needs; refers students to tutoring as needed.
- Administers progress tests and assigns grades based on results.
- Prepares reports to senior management regarding test scores, student participation, and student progress.
- Keeps abreast of state rules and regulations regarding Adult Education policies.
- Stays current with pedagogy and adjusts teaching methods accordingly.
- Attends regular staff meetings with Adult Education Managers and Coordinators to receive program policy information.
- B.S., B.A. from a regionally accredited university/college in a discipline appropriate to instructional subject (e.g., English, Mathematics, Reading, Elementary or Secondary Education, Social Science, Science, History, ABE/GED Education).
- M.Ed., M.A., or M.S. in related fields preferred (e.g., Curriculum and Instruction, Teaching, Reading, Mathematics, Educational Policy, Literacy Studies, Adult Education).
- International degree(s) evaluated by a certified provider (e.g., E.C.E., W.E.S., etc.).
- Official transcript(s) reflecting relevant coursework required to teach the assigned course.
- Submit sample lesson plans, syllabi, or teaching portfolio demonstrating skills in instruction and adult learning practices.
- Knowledge of current adult education classroom assessment techniques.
- Completed satisfactory teaching demonstration for the hiring committee.
- Availability to teach in offsite locations.
Adult Educators work 9:00 AM to 9:30 PM, Monday through Thursday, and 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Fridays and Saturdays. Specific shifts are assigned based on course needs and enrollment. The starting pay for this position is $41.23 hourly. Benefits information is available at the City Colleges of Chicago benefits page.
