Resident Teacher - Master's Degree Program

The AUSL Teacher Residency Resident Teacher position is a one-year training position that provides a training stipend, financial aid, and reduced tuition cost to become a full-time teacher. This position is for career changers looking for an accessible opportunity to become a full-time teacher.

About the AUSL Teacher Residency

The AUSL Teacher Residency is a nationally recognized, one-year teacher preparation program that helps career changers and recent graduates become highly effective teachers in North Chicago, Round Lake, Waukegan, and Chicago Public Schools. Since 2003, AUSL Teacher Residency has prepared 1,549 resident teachers through a proven cohort model, graduate‑level coursework, and in‑classroom experience alongside mentor teachers.

Qualifications

Scholarship and Financial Aid
  • AUSL provides a $22,100 resident teacher scholarship paid directly to you. Use this living allowance to pay for tuition costs or cover living costs during your training year.
  • Additional grants such as the TEACH Grant, MTI Scholarship, and Segal Award are available to reduce your program cost.
  • Resident teachers may qualify for partial tuition cost forgiveness through FAFSA Loan Forgiveness depending on your chosen content area.
