Job Overview

City Colleges of Chicago (CCC) School of Engineering provides access to high quality and equitable community college pathways leading to an associate degree and transfer opportunities to four‑year colleges or universities in engineering or computer science for racially and socio‑economically diverse engineering students. Headquartered at Harold Washington College with sites at various campuses across the district, the School of Engineering aspires to become the nation’s premier community college pipeline for producing diverse engineering leaders.

Objective

Working as part of the School of Engineering District team and reporting directly to the Districtwide Dean‑School of Engineering, the Associate Dean‑School of Engineering provides collaborative leadership at one or more of the School of Engineering site colleges. In partnership with college faculty and staff, the Associate Dean supports the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of the School of Engineering’s programs, services, and student supports.

Duties
  • Collaboratively develops short and long‑term goals and objectives for School of Engineering (SOE) at assigned site colleges and participates in long‑term strategic planning efforts and program development.
  • Coordinates the implementation of student support programs and initiatives in alignment with district wide standards and goals, including recruitment, orientation, placement and advising, peer‑to‑peer tutoring, internships, mentorship, and transfer support. Evaluates program effectiveness and recommends improvements.
  • Works closely with each college site’s Administrative Lead to align operations and ensure seamless delivery of student support services.
  • Develops and maintains strong relationships with local schools, businesses, community organizations, and external partners to enhance outreach and recruitment efforts.
  • Promotes student engagement opportunities such as mentoring, research opportunities, internships, and job placements.
  • Supervises student tutors, mentors, and other staff at assigned sites, as well as professional staff as appropriate. Provides professional development, coaching, and performance feedback to ensure high‑quality service delivery.
  • Manages site‑level budgets for student services support and programs, ensuring fiscal accountability and efficient use of resources.
  • Tracks and reports on key performance indicators (KPIs) such as enrollment growth, retention rates, student satisfaction, and successful transfer outcomes. Uses data insights to drive continuous improvement.
  • Articulates and champions the School of Engineering’s mission, vision, and values to students, faculty, staff, industry partners, associations and other external stakeholders.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • A Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in a science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) field OR a Master’s degree in Higher Education with a Bachelor’s in a STEM field. A PhD is preferred.
  • A minimum of five years of administrative experience required, preferably in a college setting.
  • Three to five years of work experience in the field of engineering preferred.
  • Previous work experience in higher education student affairs, non‑credit education, continuing education, dual enrollment, and/or workforce development highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of engineering institutions, organizations, and industry.
  • Demonstrated record of leadership in an academic setting, including strategic planning, budgeting, and personnel management.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
