GRAD, a part of the Office of the Provost that supports graduate education across the University, is an innovative national model for preparing graduate students and postdocs to succeed while at UChicago and beyond. GRAD works with campus partners to support students and postdocs at every stage of their academic careers and beyond. UChicago
GRAD functions as a one‑stop shop for graduate students and postdocs to access resources that support timely degree completion and to enhance professional preparation that helps them translate their degrees into a variety of careers. UChicago
GRAD works with academic departments and divisions as well as campus‑wide offices to develop and implement outreach, recruitment, and yield efforts; graduate and postdoc‑focused programs, workshops, and events; training and support tailored to UChicago graduate students and postdocs; and administrative practices and policies in support of graduate education.
The job assists in the design and implementation of advisory programs focused on students' career developments.
Responsibilities- Serve as the primary career advisor to graduate students and recent graduate alumni from programs at the University of Chicago.
- Engage in one‑on‑one advising that assists students with career exploration, networking, job document preparation, and negotiation.
- Develop and maintain resources that help students navigate their career at UChicago and beyond.
- Facilitate workshops, career conversations, and other professional opportunities appropriate for graduate students.
- Build knowledge of career paths in academia, industry, nonprofits, and government.
- Build knowledge of PhD program application processes across disciplines.
- Send career newsletters and other communications that inform students of relevant opportunities.
- Serve as a liaison between UChicago
GRAD and graduate programs, developing relationships with campus partners. - Contribute to large‑scale events run by UChicago
GRAD and campus partners. - Follow up with students and graduate alumni to track progress and career outcomes.
- Conduct mock interviews, review resumes and cover letters, and coordinate other interview‑related programming in both individual and group settings.
- Develop original content for career‑related publications and assist with the editing and distribution of Career Services communications materials.
- Perform other related work as needed.
- Education: Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in a related field.
- Work Experience: Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 2–5 years of work experience in a related job discipline.
- Certifications: N/A
- Education: Master’s degree in student affairs or a relevant academic discipline.
- Experience: Experience advising/coaching/mentoring students in a one‑on‑one setting.
- Technical Skills or Knowledge: Proficiency with MS Office, graphic design programs, and career services management tools.
- Preferred
