Summary
Yorktown Systems Group is seeking a highly qualified Language Instructor to support the ForSCOM Language and Culture program. The role requires flexibility to meet the unique instruction needs of commanders requiring language and/or culture related capabilities for their personnel. Courses do not have rigid Programs of Instruction (POIs) but instead use the Interagency Language Roundtable (ILR) proficiency level descriptions and contemporary theories and teaching methodologies in Second Language Acquisition (SLA) and Adult & Continuing Education.

Job DescriptionSpecific duties may include, but are not limited to:
- Provide language/culture instruction ranging from basic survival orientations to intensive micro‑immersion courses; including MOS/mission specific instruction for professional military linguists.
- Focus on aural comprehension, speaking, reading, writing, and cultural contextualization, with emphasis varying by class.
- Develop POIs, lesson plans, and tailored delivery according to government specifications (ILR level, modality) and student needs, based on current scientific and pedagogical principles.
- Adapt teaching strategies to account for student differences to the greatest extent possible.
- Introduce learners to strategies that align with their preferred learning methods during the initial orientation.
- Use both individual and small group work in a tutorial/mentor capacity regardless of proficiency.
- Provide POIs and lesson plans for each class conducted.
- Maintain a minimum ILR 4 in each modality taught and a minimum ILR L3/R3/S3/W3 in English.
- Expertise in proficiency‑based methods and materials; able to adapt authentic materials or repurpose traditional language materials using ILR skill level descriptions, including translation into target language and ensuring appropriate proficiency level.
- Familiar with current strategies and theories addressing adult learner differences (age, gender, education, rank, etc.).
- Proficient in word processing with foreign fonts and in a Windows (MS Office) environment; experience with templates for computer‑assisted instruction.
- Expertise in integrating audio, video, and multimedia in language classrooms; experience with modern classroom and web‑based technologies (interactive whiteboards, touchscreens, media players, Webtools).
Clearance: Must possess and maintain a favorably adjudicated National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI) investigation.
