Description🚩 Starting Salary: $65,000 – $75,000 per year based on experience.
Ombudsman Educational Services, a growing organization with a social mission, seeks a Special Education Teacher to join our award‑winning Alternative Education team. This role offers a culture of innovation, creative expression, and limitless potential for personal and professional growth.
Responsibilities- Lead instructional processes for high‑school students with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).
- Create dynamic, personalized learning experiences in the learning center and classroom.
- Deliver targeted instruction, integrate educational software, and design comprehensive lesson plans.
- Maintain an inclusive, collaborative environment involving students, parents, colleagues, and administrators.
- Implement Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) strategies and classroom behavior expectations.
- Track and document student progress and generate reports detailing student achievements.
- Adapt curricular content to accommodate diverse learning styles and abilities.
- Manage caseload responsibilities and develop individualized education plans (IEPs), goals, and interventions.
- Maintain an organized, safe, and welcoming classroom environment.
- Stay informed on current research‑based instructional practices and trends in special education.
- Respond constructively to feedback and pursue ongoing professional growth.
- Support the school community by performing additional duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree or higher in education, special education, or a related field.
- Licensed or in the process of obtaining an IL professional educator (PEL) credential.
- Licensed or in the process of obtaining an IL special education (SEE) credential.
- Prior experience in curriculum development, differentiation, and instruction in an alternative, special education, or behavioral health setting.
- Experience with students who have learning disabilities, emotional disturbance, or challenging behaviors.
- Proficiency in providing motivation and having critical conversations with students who move toward realistic goals.
- Advanced oral and written communication, organization, conflict resolution, multitasking, problem solving, and decision‑making skills.
- Knowledge of relevant technology, including instructional technology, Microsoft Office Suite, database entry, and basic office equipment.
