EARLY HEAD START-CCP TEACHER ASSISTANT role at The Puerto Rican Cultural Center

Centro Infantil Consuelo Lee Corretjer.
Summary of Position: Responsible for the education and general development of the community children enrolled in the agency’s Early Head Start-CCP Centro Infantil Program, implementing the curriculum per Early Head Start-CCP standards, educational plan, and the agency philosophy with Teacher.
This position requires compliance with all PRCC written standards, including its Standards of Conduct, all policies and procedures and Regulatory Compliance requirements. Compliance will be considered as part of the regular performance evaluation.
Responsibilities- Assist the Teacher in providing a learning environment for children that will help to promote learning through all developmental areas: physical, social-emotional, and intellectual.
- With Teacher implement weekly lessons focusing on literacy, math, and science to provide a “child-centered environment” which includes individualized activities, small and large group activities.
- Support Teachers with home visits, parent interviews, and conferences.
- Write weekly child observations.
- Complete required classroom paperwork as needed, including lesson plans, child observations, home visits, and parent/teacher conference reports.
- Maintain a high level of professionalism at all times during working hours, and with DFSS and Early Head Start-CCP partners when representing the program.
- Acquires all necessary signatures of parents and/or guardians for events/activities requiring their permission.
- Assist the Teacher to complete and implement an assessment for each child and identify and refer children with special needs to the social service worker.
- With Teacher plan and implement appropriate activities following the Creative Curriculum and the Center Philosophy. Adapting the curriculum and directing instruction to meet individual needs.
- Attend and participate in all Field Trips, Parents meetings, Evaluations, Training, Fundraisers, Program Recruitment Events, and Conferences.
- Support the Teacher to create and maintain a classroom environment that is well organized, clean and attractive and arrange the classroom to meet the needs of each child. Plan and assist in all remodeling and cleaning of the Day Care Center.
- Respond to the child’s needs in a loving and caring environment.
- Attends PRCC program-specific and organizational activities and meetings, including but not limited to the monthly organization-wide General Assembly. Participate in PRCC annual events in the community including but not limited to Puerto Rican Peoples Parade, The Tree Kings Day, Fiesta Boricua, and Haunted Paseo Boricua.
- Other duties may be assigned.

Qualifications- Education: Associate degree ECE/Child Development or an Infant and Toddlers CDA Credential
- Experience: A minimum of one year of job-related prior experience.

Competencies:
Bilingual Spanish / English preferred
- Knowledge of Teaching Strategies Gold System and Creative Curriculum
- Ability to present information about the agency on the agency’s behalf.
- Ability to apply common sense, analyze data and interpret results yielding varying outcomes.
- Knowledge of standard office equipment: facsimile machine, photocopier, telephone, computer, iPad, and printer.
